WTM, great and encouraging report. In the last year, the Pirates international players are really starting to shine. What do you attribute the change to? The pirates used to produce very few prospects from international signings, now they’re dominating these reports except at AAA.
WTM and Chris. I agree with both of you. And in order for some of those international guys to be making it to AA it means that those prisoects were scouted and recruited 3 to 4 years ago. It means the current lack of internationals at a major league level was a Huntington problem, and Cherrington actually is correcting it.
To elaborate, for years and years none of their LAm hitters could get the effing bat on the ball. Stark difference now when you look at guys like Florentino and JDLS.
I'd like to see a deep dive on this because some of the changes in our LAm staff happened towards the end of Huntington's tenure. And, since many deals are worked out when the kid is just 14, even someone like Florentino may have been identified and "signed" before any of the changes that Cherington implemented. The big break from the past may have happened when they moved on from Gayo.
I'm not saying that Cherington doesn't deserve credit, I would just like to know more before deciding how much credit he deserves.
Garrett McMillan moved to IL-60, which is unfortunate.
Tanner Rainey released, which . . . whatever.
Florentino missed a slam by about 3 feet.
I was 10000000% convinced that was gone when he made contact
It usually is.
Morning game in Bradenton. Four-pitch 1st for Carlos Castillo. I heartily approve.
Other than that inning, Castillo unfortunately is just throwing BP

Better scouting. Gotta be.

This is a point in BC’s favor, but he will be long gone, presumably, before they arrive and contribute.
