I’ll repeat what I’ve said previously when Lonnie White is discussed: Bill James wrote in one of his Baseball Abstracts that staying healthy should be considered a skill for position players. You can have all the talent in the world, but it’s of no use if you can’t stay on the field. I’d like to see Tony Blanco, Jr. play 130 games next year. Then we’ll see if the Pirates have something or not.

Key point regarding staying healthy and being able to play/learn. A Plus for the Pirates and a good example is Termarr Johnson, drafted in 2022 and already has played 252 games in the minors with almost 1,100 PA in only about 2.2 seasons.

True enough. The head scratching part with Blanco was, even when he wasn’t on IL, he’d only play about every other game. Like he was a China doll or something.

Playing 1B/DH puts him in good position to play 100+. Idk if he’ll get that high though

Regardless, 100 games would be more than he’s played his first 3 years combined so even if he’s right on the dot I’d take it

Would today’s Ivy League educated GM’s let Cal Ripken play 130 games?

Seems the more management does to protect players from injury, the more injuries happen.

I miss the 80’s.
