Both maybe a bit better than hatch but they need better to compete higher. Hatch was a DFA in waiting and would have been the first gone when they signed the first free agent anyway. That was my point.
I was just saying I was surprised that the other guys were cut first. I'm not sure what you mean by difference makers. But if other teams are signing them, there are teams that think they still might be helpful at the major league level. I'm not sure MLB teams would be going after Hatch.
None of the guys gone would have the talent to make the team that much better. Most if not all will be DFAd once FA start signing with them. Hatch, in my opinion was a DFA in waiting anyway. He would have been the first one to go as soon as a FA is signed here.
My point was just the order the players were getting cut was almost in reverse order of their potential upside. I just figured Hatch would be one of the first to go. How much players will help us in the future is pretty much a guess. I would have guessed wrong on Clay Holmes and Robert Stephenson. I saw potential in all of Stratton, Perdomo and DeLosSantos but probably not right away. I didn't want to give up on Marcano, even though the Pirates had little choice. It also wouldn't surprise me if Andujar hit .290 with 100 RBIs, but then it wouldn't surprise me if he put up a Rodolfo Castro year. Good discussion.
I get what you are saying. All would have needed to get cut at some point this season. For FA or potential trades. The order didn’t really matter to me. Would not be surprised if Stephenson does not regress again like he did with us.
Without knowing much about Gelles, I love this move. I've felt like we needed a fresh perspective in the FO, and she seems to bring that potential. I had advocated for making Cherington president and bringing in a new GM, and perhaps this sets the stage for that once Gelles gets some experience as an assistant GM.
OOTP legend Tres Gonzalez
A cheaper version of K. Newman.
Hatch heading to Japan
I was surprised the Pirates kept him on the 40 man roster while they lost about 5 or 6 other guys.
Bob apparently got a Starbucks gift card from the Ham Fighters, so it was a successful strategy.
It tooks me a minute to figure out what you are talking about, but it was worth it. :)
The other 5-6 guys were not difference makers themselves so not a big deal to be honest
Stratton or De Los Santos. Both have Upside and either would have been better than Hatch IMO

As long as they’re poaching from the Astros and Rays, I’m pretty much gonna be in favor.
Yes, if it's the Astros post-2017 (and it is).
Was an intern with the Bucs in 2010 I think.
Amherst, she was an intern under Huntington.
I wonder if anyone outside of New England has ever heard of the game baseball before. If you ask Nutting, the answer is "no."
With high contact rate, no power he needs to be a good base stealers and an above average glove, is he?
If he had all the tools he wouldn't be in the Pirates organization, lol.
Stole 28 last year. Glove can stick in center field. Arm is a little on the fringe side, which I guess would be a bit worrisome in center.
Fourth OF type? I’d settle for “any OF type” at the upper levels right now.
I think 4th OF is probably his absolute ceiling right now, and the debate would be if he could get there.
Well the upside of guys like Tres is if we could get more guys on base then Jack and the boys won't hit so many solo homeruns, lol.
Just don’t get them on third with nobody out or we’ll never score.
They need to get multiple runners on third. That’s the ticket.
