Saw you wrote Druw Jones. Then thought of old Eric Greene's lad. Going to have to look to see if either are doing much. Have kept up with Holliday and Termarr but no one else from that draft class that's not a Pirate farm hand.
The Dodgers look like they're going to pull it off. They're extending Smith 10 years $140 million, pushing their payroll commitments to over $1.4 billion in one off-season. Double the pirates last ten years combined. Only counts because pirates regular season hasn't begun yet.
I wouldn't mind at all if we took Collins as an easy sign senior from the third round, maybe second to save pool space for round 11 on a prep player. The guys had injuries but the 3 times I've watched Georgia he's crushed the ball (against good pitching). He can potentially play 3 or 4 positions as well.
Jared Jones ("spin rate monster") seems to be workin' out alright! ;)
Summer league thing, though, is ridiculously antiquated. Nobody pitches there anymore unless coming off injury and trying to jump up draft boards. Level of competition has tanked.
Given what they paid Skenes, I'm amazed they got anything else out of that draft. Admittedly, they may not get a single other pitcher if Meuth doesn't pan out . . . but at least some dudes like Jebb and McAdoo look interesting.
Kurtz has had some injuries and hasn’t had a good spring, but he’s been rated near the top of most mocks until recently. He plays a position the Pirates don’t seem to be able or willing to improve through free agency or trades so unless there’s more to his underachieving performance recently, he’d be a good choice at #9.
That would be Kurtz ceiling. Olson is really really good, I'd be satisfied with a Olson light .250/.350/.500 with good defense at 1st instead of GG caliber.
that line at 1B would be a dream for a Pirates fan. Historically, Bucs have had _2_ 1B who've slugged .500+ all time in Stargell and Dick Staurt while there have been 43 1B to do it!
JJ Wetherholt should be back next weekend against Kansas.
T minus 15 hours 16 minutes and Counting!!!
I hadn't seen any comment here but is Tim at P2 truly bipolar? Why would he go all "I DID IT MYYYYY WAY" psychopath like that?
Can't say I know what that means but I'm glad this new website came of the other one. Just need danatural and lee fieux.
Insane amount of class shown by Murphy, Dreker, Wilbur, and Nola to stay quiet here.
I didn't mean to put anyone out by saying something aloud fwiw. Just holy cow.
T-minus 22 hours 40 minutes and counting!!!!
sources saying the Diamondbacks want Peguero back
You sure it wasn't Miami? They have an open spot on their 40. Maybe they want NickyG for their compB and a lottery ticket.
Lawler down for months
Berti traded to the Yanks. Either would work.
I'll part with Malone.
looks like Peguero, Harrington and Nick are heading to Arizona for Drew Jones and Ivan Melendez
or just Melendez for Peguero would be nice

Bear in mind that Jones and Greene were seen as the furthest away from the majors of that group. Nothing has really changed since that draft.
Looked at their stats for a second but figured as much. Thanks for the response

Shim to the 60 day? Fuckkkkkkk
truly fascinating how some of these players have no (reported) injuries before signing, but once they sign, it's one injury after another.
You'll have that with 18 yo pitchers...
Attrition is a bitch.
He appears to be headed down the Brennan Malone career path.
I sure hope not
In Hess's defense against Georgia, Condon and Collins are 2 of the hottest hitters east of Travis Bazzana.
And Georgia has more home runs than any other team right now.
I saw some stuff I like. Imma make sure I check out a couple more starts this year from him

I'll be very interested to see if the pirates drafting strategy changes with the new director
The focus on summer league performance and spin rates isn't getting them anywhere.
Jared Jones ("spin rate monster") seems to be workin' out alright! ;)

Upper-90s helps. You haven't tried watching their spin-rate guys throwing 89 for Bradenton.
Seems like a bad combo!
Throw in poor command. These college pitchers they're drafting have HS level command.

MLB pipeline did a mock top 10 on their most recent podcast and had us taking Kurtz

Is Kurtz a guy who could move quickly through a system?
As long as he can hit a breaking ball, lol.
I do think he's supposed to be hitting secondaries well. Tibbs supposedly doesn't otherwise I'd have mentioned him below too.
Fairly quickly, maybe make it to Altoona for a cup at the end of this year. Kurtz knows the zone, has 28 walks in around 85 plate appearances.
You think Matt Olson is the best comp for Kurtz?
That would be Kurtz ceiling. Olson is really really good, I'd be satisfied with a Olson light .250/.350/.500 with good defense at 1st instead of GG caliber.

That's why I want them to take Blake Burke as well. More power!! With the dh you got room for both.
Colonel Kurtz?
The horror. The horror.
