A question for Wilbur on TJ timelines. Aren’t they usually back in about 14 months? I’d think that puts JT and Burrows back in June thereabouts.

Nicolas kinda feels like selby to me that if they are in on him then he will get a spot

All I can say is thank goodness a Pirates prospects site for once is not conjuring up a Rule 5 roster crunch. That has to be the most overrated phenomenon in all of prospect analysis.

Relief pitchers with options, especially those who can cover more than 1 inning, are worth their weight in gold. In the past, the Pirates have seemed unconcerned with retaining some extra bullpen pieces in Indianapolis. They seem to assume they can acquire bullpen depth on the waiver wire. I hope those days are coming to an end, but much depends on guys like de los Santos and Bolton improving to the point where they are better than a waiver wire claim.

I assume Ashcraft gets protected, personally. As for Nicolas, I figured he would get a chance to end the year, but if he doesn't, I'm not sure if he gets protected or not.

Crap, I totally forgot Ashcraft. Yeah, for sure. Cheng and Nicolas are tougher, but it's not like the Pirates couldn't easily drop 10-15 guys they'd never miss. I'd hope the Pirates would call Nicolas up to get him in a game or two, but that might make too much sense.

In some ways Palacios looks like the antithesis of Suwinski. His analytics are bad, but his production in meaningful game situations has been very good. Production matters at least as much as obscure analytical numbers in my opinion, although I realize I’m probably in the minority these days.

I find it hilarious a doctor uses anecdotal data when looking at baseball players.

Other than a hot streak as a pinch hitter, im not if there's any part of palacios' game that is consistently productive

I actually think two games (mostly just the one 8 ER game) skew the perception on Bolton. I'm not sure why they're so reluctant to keep him up, which may be the indicator itself, but his last 9 appearances he gave up only 3 ER in 11.1 IP with 6 BBs and 14 K's.
