Overview

Silvera was throwing in the 86-88 mph range when the Pirates signed him and scouts believed he could add considerably to that.  He also featured a promising slider.

2021-22

Silvera pitched mostly as a starter in the DSL, which is a little surprising for a guy who was quite young; he didn’t turn 17 until mid-season.  He didn’t miss a lot of bats, but he walked very few (2.5 BB/9) and improved during the season.  In three July starts, he had a 6.75 ERA and one strikeout over eight innings.  After that, his ERA was 1.91 and he fanned 28 in 28.1 IP. The Pirates sent Silvera back to the DSL in 2022 and he had an outstanding season.  Hitters managed just a measly 182/219/203 line against him, and he had an ERA of 1.54 and BB/9 of 1.3.

2023-24

Still only 18 at the start of the 2023 season, Silvera went to the FCL. He was hurt at the start of the season, but he was able to pitch by July 1. He didn’t have nearly as much success, getting hit hard and walking 5.9 per nine innings. Opponents had an .855 OPS. He missed all of 2024 with an injury.
