Overview
Aquino was born in Virginia Beach, but signed out of the Dominican. He wasn’t one of the top bonus recipients in the Pirates’ January 2023 international group, but he has a great deal of power potential and could eventually hit in the middle of the order if he develops. He has above-average speed and a plus arm, so he could become a strong defender in an outfield corner, although the speed may diminish as he fills out.
2023-24
Aquino struggled in his DSL debut, hitting186/252/210. He struck out in nearly half his ABs. He returned there in 2024 and everything got better, but only a little: all of his slash line numbers, his walk rate and his K rate. He played only in the outfield corners.
