Overview

Camacho is a LHP from Mexico who played in the independent Pioneer League in 2021.  He throws a low-90s fastball, along with a curve and change, and reportedly has a solid feel for pitching.  The Pirates signed him at the beginning of the 2021-22 international signing period, which didn’t start until January 15, 2022.

2021

Camacho started five times and relieved once for Rocky Mountain in the Pioneer League.  He had an ERA of 9.00 and other bad numbers as well, but in Camacho’s defense the Pioneer League was an extreme, high-offense league, with a league-wide ERA of 6.98 and a .310 batting average.  Rocky Mountain had a staff ERA of 9.18.  Also, Camacho was only 17 in a league with an average age around 24.

2022-24

The Pirates brought Camacho to minor league spring training in March 2022.  He probably would have been in the FCL, but he went on the injured list and missed the whole season. He surfaced in the DSL in 2023 and pitched well in relief, with a 2.59 ERA, 3.3 BB/9 and 12.2 K/9. Just the same, the team sent him back to the DSL for 2024, where he continued to pitch in relief apart from one start. His peripheral numbers were better than his 3.72 ERA, as he had a 1.13 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9 and 13.3 K/9.
