Overview

The Pirates signed Tejada after they’d mostly completed their international signings for 2022-23.  He was originally a shortstop and started pitching in 2021.  His out pitch is a change.  He throws a fastball 93-94 mph and adds a curve.

2023-24

Tejada made four starts in the DSL, then missed the rest of the season with an injury. In 15.2 IP, he gave up just 11 hits and three walks, and struck out 16.

In 2024, the Pirates sent Tejada initially to the FCL. Pitching in a swing role, he didn’t get great results, with a 4.98 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 7.1 K/9. The Pirates moved him up to Bradenton late in the season and he saw a fair amount of action in his time there. He had a better ERA at the higher level, but a higher WHIP and weak walk and K rates, 5.8 BB/9 and 6.5 K/9.
