Overview
Garcia signed at age 20 in 2019. He throws from a low three-quarters angle, with a fastball that averages about 93 mph, and a cutter and change. He’s been a reliever exclusively.
2019-21
Garcia debuted just briefly in the DSL in 2019, making six relief appearances. After the pandemic season, he pitched in long relief in the FCL in 2021 and had an impressive season, holding opponents to a .188 average, with a BB/9 of 2.5 and K/9 of 12.0.
2022-24
Garcia spent 2022 and 2023 at Bradenton and didn’t seem like the same pitcher as in 2021. He got hit harder, put up weak K rates and walked a lot of hitters. His performance, including his walk and K rates, were a little worse in 2023 than in 2022. The Pirates moved him up to Greensboro at the end of the 2023 season and he had two rough outings there.
In 2024, Garcia returned to Greensboro for the season, other than one fill-in appearance for Altoona. He didn’t have a particularly good season, with walks being the biggest problem. A 5.5 BB/9 contributed a good deal to a 1.57 WHIP. He fanned only 8.8 per nine innings in a league that averaged 10.0.
