Overview
Martinez is a power pitcher with good spin on his slider. By 2024 he was up to 96-97 mph with his fastball. His change is below average and he may profile better as a reliever.
2023-24
Martinez pitched sparingly in his debut. Over 13 innings, he gave up ten hits and ten walks, and struck out 11. Just the same, the Pirates moved him up to the FCL in 2024, so they must have a good opinion of him. He started the season on the injured list and wasn’t activated until early July. He made six appearances, mostly abbreviated starts. In 14.1 IP, he allowed only seven hits and had an ERA of 1.26. His walk and K totals weren’t good though, as he walked 11 and struck out only nine.
