Overview

Rodriguez signed as a potential power hitter. He has a good approach at the plate, swinging and missing less often often than most hitters do at the lower levels. On defense so far, he’s alternated between first base and left field.

2021-24

Playing first base and left field, Rodriguez had a good debut.  His walked just two fewer times than he struck out and he hit for some power. For some reason, the Pirates sent him back to the DSL for a second season and he had almost exactly the same year, except he walked and struck out more often. He still maintained a good BB:K ratio.

Rodriguez went to the FCL in 2023. He continued to have good walk and K rates, 11.9% and 16.4%, respectively. His hitting improved a little, with a line of 295/409/442. In 2024, Rodriguez was hurt at the start of the season and joined Bradenton in late April. He got off to a very good start, but slumped badly in June, batting just .102. He got hurt again in mid-July and didn’t return. For the season, Rodriguez hit 209/342/269 and struggled to make contact, with a 30% K rate. He split his time evenly between first, left and right.
