Overview

Oviedo is a toolsy center fielder with a lot of projection, as his bonus suggests.  That includes a chance to hit for power.  His speed and arm are average.

2022-24

Oviedo played center almost exclusively in his debut.  He didn’t hit well and struck out too much, but he did show some power.  His K rate dropped steadily throughout the season and he stole 14 bases in 20 tries. He returned to the level in 2023 and had much more success, batting 299/389/488. He finished strongly, with a 1.019 OPS in August. He managed to improve both his walk and strikeout rates, and went 15-for-21 as a base stealer.

Oviedo went to the FCL in 2024 and struggled severely, striking out 41 times in 78 plate appearances, with a .501 OPS. The Pirates moved him to the development list at the end of June. He returned for one pinch-running appearance a month later, then went on the injured list for the rest of the season.
