Overview
Romero signed with the Pirates in 2019, but thanks in part to the pandemic it wasn’t until 2021 that he appeared in game action. He throws about 90 mph and has a good changeup.
2020-22
After missing the pandemic season, Romero pitched mostly in relief in the DSL in 2021. He put up solid numbers, with opponents slugging only .296 against him. He returned to the level in 2022 and pitched very well for about a month, with an ERA of 0.90. He moved up to the FCL at that point and got solid results, with a low K rate of 6.8 K/9. For the season, he threw only 23.1 IP.
2023
In the FCL in 2023, Romero had a much tougher time. He increased his K/9 to 9.3, but he had a lot more trouble with the strike zone than previously, walking 7.2 per nine innings.
