Overview
The Pirates gave Terrero one of the top bonuses in their 2019-20 international signing class. He’s a contact-oriented hitter with very good plate discipline but uncertain power. His speed is a little better than average, so he could stay in center. His arm is below average.
2020-22
After the canceled 2020 season, Terrero went to the DSL and got on base a great deal, thanks to a very high walk rate. He didn’t hit the ball with a lot of authority, but generally made contact, striking out a good deal less than he walked. Terrero spent a third of his time in center and the rest in left, and made only one error. In the FCL in 2022, Terrero was probably the team’s most consistent hitter. He again walked more than he struck out and put up a 330/446/443 line. He had one home run, his second as a pro, and it was inside-the-park. He divided his time among the three outfield positions.
2023-24
With Bradenton in 2023, Terrero had a different sort of season. He clearly focused on trying to drive the ball more, which resulted in more power, but a lower average and a lot more strikeouts. In fact, his K rate went from 13.1% in 2022 to 25.8%. He still walked a lot. He batted 266/308/409, which was good for the league, especially for a hitter who played the season at age 20. He played more in the outfield corners than in center.
Terrero was hurt at the start of the 2024 season and didn’t join Bradenton until early June. He also missed the last four weeks of the season. When he played, he struggled to hit, with a line of 161/256/265 and strikeouts in just over a third of his plate appearances.
