Overview

Suero is a switch-hitting outfielder who runs well and takes good enough routes to stay in center. He’s tall and lean, and could develop above-average power, although so far he hasn’t put up good exit velocities. He’s reasonably patient, but has had swing-and-miss problems early in his career. Given the long levers, that’s not a big surprise.

2022-24

In his DSL debut, Suero had a solid season, including some power, but he had contact issues. Things continued in the same vein in the FCL in 2022, except his hitting slumped some. He was one of three players the Pirates acquired in a deadline deal for Rich Hill and Ji-Man Choi. In 13 games after the trade, he hit 217/379/326. His plate discipline was fine; he walked and struck out a dozen times. The Pirates alternated Suero between center and right.

At some point, Suero suffered a hamate injury. He joined the FCL Pirates in early May and appeared in seven games, then went on the injured list at mid-month. He played regularly in July. Whether or not due to effects from the injury, Suero didn’t make any progress at the plate, batting 213/318/307. His K rate went from 28% the year before to 35%.
