@melkel "The Cubs signed sixth-round pick Josiah Hartshorn to a $2MM bonus that represents the highest ever for that round, Callis reports. The slot value was around $355K."

Seems like the Pirates could consider hiring you.

Second round money. I think Taitn Gray will sign for a similar amount, maybe a little less.

Don't work for the Pirates. Please take your talents to a team that tries. Even if it's your local beer league softball.

You wonder if a spreadsheet jockey like Cherington could ever be human enough to chat with a Mitch Keller about whether it would mean much to him to go play for the Cubs having been from Iowa. I doubt Ben would bother. Too busy with the algos but something like that might make re-signing players you've traded away if you ever wanted to a bit more realistic.

BOOYAH!!!!! Mitchie the Kid with another quality start and the win. A series win against the team that was the best in the league until they came to the Burgh! A chance to sweep the Tigers tomorrow afternoon. Raise it!!!

Series win over best team in MLB after getting thoroughly destroyed and humiliated by worst team in AL.

Pirates never cease to amaze.

"Best team" has lost 8 of 9. We caught them in free fall and miss Skubal. Nothing to see here...just ebbs and flows of baseball.

That’s what makes baseball so great from other sports IMO.

I'm watching the best team in MLB, trying to see how you win 11 games in a row. Smh Brew Crew.

They don't have a single guy with an .800 OPS, but they're 7th in R/G. Everybody in the lineup except the SS hits. It's the lineup the Pirates try to pretend they have.

Almost could have had if they'd had chosen Arnold over Cherington, probably.

For those of you that are good with finding data, what is Davis barrel rate?

9.6%, which appears to be around average.

Sorry I missed this. I have Hank's statcast on speed dial rooting for the guy: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/henry-davis-680779?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb

7% barrel is average. His launch angle is the opposite of Ballerina's: too high. If he got to his expected BA and expected Slugging we'd all be happy. He needs to raise his hands a little in his setup.

As I wrote earlier today, if the Pirates are trading Bednar, LA should be the destination. They have about five players who would immediately become the Pirates’ best outfield prospect.

There is a video up on the DK site. He slides into the tarp, immediately rolls over on his stomach and starts pounding the ground in obvious pain. Not expecting good news out of this one.

Could be good or bad. A sprained ankle can hurt about as bad as anything you can do to your leg. Of course a bad sprain can take a couple of months to heal. Still, better than a lot of less painful other possibilities.
