Tired of Greg Brown criticizing players. Dude is a douche and needs to go.

Hasn’t been stated explicitly since there was still hope but: Forget about Cruz being inconsistent for the moment, or Hayes being stirred fried ass. There’s no bat cavalry coming from the minors. Every position player they had to call up has been called up. Monstrous franchise-killing whiffs thus far on Davis, Triolo, Peggy, Endy, Jack. If x-number of those guys don’t turn it around at the plate this club is galactically fucked ad infinitum

Your point stands but Triolo isn't a big deal. He was a Comp Round B pick. Still hoping for Hank: since concussion return July 4th, he's hitting .317/.372/.544 at Indy with 4 HR and 16 RBI. He's struck out 19 times in 88 plate appearances (21.6% strikeout rate). But yeah, no sure bats for sure.

It feels like Jack hitting well last year gave Cherington a false sense of confidence about the OF (which was stupidity on his part for sure).

I expected Triolo’s BABIP to come back to earth but not plummet to the bowels of the earth. He’s currently unplayable, sadly. As for Jack, I have no idea what happened to him. Maybe Haines monkey fucking around with his swing/approach, trying to turn him into a contact hitter? IDK. I’d sign on to the conspiracy theory that looking at the eclipse fried his retinas except that he was buns before the eclipse (small sample).

I remain hopeful for all those guys including Tank. Kinda have to be. You know Nickels won’t authorize any good FAs over the offseason. This is it.

Playoff chances officially dead in the water. It didn't help to have a lineup with only four legitimate major league hitters. And what a time for the bullpen to be unable to keep a lead! Holderman has helped lose three of the past five games. Bednar can't keep the ball in the park this year. What a difference those three games make. Totally demoralizing!

Can anyone really still believe Pirate management (Shelton, Cherington and the Nut job) wants to win this year? Repeatedly letting Holderman pitch in high leverage situations. How many games is that he’s thrown away now? I stopped counting. Joe, Taylor, Triolo, Grandal, Bae still playing and dragging the whole team down. Too soon to judge de la Cruz, but so far looks bad. No one else to play you say? At least try.

Send Bae and Triolo down and bring Cook and Yorke up. Dump Grandal, Joe and Taylor. Bring up Davis to back up Bart. Bring up Nunez to platoon at first with Rowdy. He’s hitting .267 with over 50 RBI and striking out less than 20% of his PAs this year. And, yes, bring up Gorski to play center. He’s good defensively and actually strikes out less than Taylor has been and when he hits the ball something happens unlike MAT. Maybe he’s overmatched or maybe not, but half of this team is overmatched and not getting any better so why not give him a shot? Above all DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT because this shit is not working.

The only answer is Cherington thinks their farm is even worse than we do and no he and Nutting aren't trying to win this year. Shelton might be but in his own dipshit unqualified to manage in MLB way.

Watching two NL West managers run circles around Shelton in successive series has been embarrassing

It has been cringeworthy, yep.

Nick yorke started in center tonight?

Yep. Will be interesting how often that happens and what comes of that

But... my dream of billy cook in center

Lost on all of this was a poor outing by Gonzales

Expand full comment

Maybe not lost, but a fifth starter having some rough outings feels less in our control than many of our self inflicted errors of late

Expand full comment

Despite the poor start by Gonzalez, the game was won until our ace closer came in. Even the P-G game article by Noah Hiles says that every single person in the ballpark was dreading the 9th inning.

I hope somebody goes in and breaks shit in the locker room or something. 4+ games weve given away in the last week?

In a single week went from 17+% playoff odds to now 7.7%

Interesting that fangraphs has both bednar and holderman rocking well above average stuff+, wouldnt have expected that with how theyre seeming to get hit

Shelton has really contributed to these recent losses. STOP taking Tellez out of the game for Joe. Tellez will give you a fighting chance, Joe should be in AAA. Does he not even understand his own roster?

When Joe came rolling up just needing to get a ball out of the infield I thought to myself, “don’t we have a guy on the bench who was supposed to be our big trade acquisition? This seems like a good spot to get him an AB. Joe seems like a great guy, but he has been brutal for 3 months.

Good point. But Shelton has seen enough of De La Cruz to know that he probably would have struck out.

Just get the ball in the air. Two sacrifice flies win the game.

In the post-game Young said the Padres don't foul off balls in the strikezone because they can handle the barrel. Very much a thing we can not do.

Runners on second and third with no one out. Why send the runner? Let them throw to first and get the first out. They were lucky to end up having BRey at third, but they set themselves up for a double play ball. It just seems stupid.

Someone needs to take the fall for this one. My vote is Andy Haines.

Why is Joe still on this team? Oh, that's right. He's cheap. Joe's gotta go!

Expand full comment

Pathetic, putrid game. Tying run on 3rd with no one out in the 10th and we can’t score. Holderman continues to betray his last name. Why is Connor Joe still on this team? Why? Why? Why?

That loss is on Grandal…can’t fucking catch reynolds throw and then a pathetic at bat

Second game he lost due to an ole tag. Add remember the steal of home lob....washed up hot dog...

Send a message DFA him now....and bring Davis back to split time with Bart.
