Lonnie has been on a tear

Top 100 prospect?

Or not yet?

Expand full comment

Such a man amongst boys right now, it's hilarious. I wanna see him on a more even physical playing field.

Expand full comment

I wouldn't he is yet. But he's someone that could shoot up into Top 100 if he keeps it going into next year

Pirates' winning pct. when Santana was traded: .441.

Since: .538.

When Hill, Choi and Dredges were traded: .448.

Since: .500.

The first line is somewhat counterintuitive since 1b (along with LF) were the only positions where Bucs fWAR was in top 10 in MLB. It's more about that trade opening up RF for Davis & using Joe properly. Hopefully Rivas keeps the Bucs in top 10 there. The amazing thing to me in looking position by position vs MLB is with all the MIs Bucs have thrown out there, 2b/SS has been a black hole. Peggy playing regularly and Cruz returning should help that.

Bubba broke his streak of exceptional starts :( Also, bowen and brannigan keep mashing

Anyone else hate the new Baseball America site layout?

Just me?

Buhler?

Expand full comment

It's awful. Mostly because the site has been so buggy.

Expand full comment

Not just you. I could make a list of things I hate about it, but I'd have to look at it to compile the list.

I find myself reading way less. Too annoying to find anything worthwhile.

Former Pirate news:

Houston Astros sent OF Bligh Madris outright to Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Red Sox designated SS Yu Chang for assignment.

Ashcraft, Ro, jones, and chandler are on the bump tonight, In addition to skenes throwing earlier. Good day for pitcher tracking in the system

You put respekt on Hatch's name!

Expand full comment

So does he gets a start? Sad, but it’s possible.

Expand full comment

Looks like he was a SP just last year and threw over 130 innings, sooooo, possibly?

Expand full comment

The state of our staff, a middle reliever has a good game and we wonder if he could start....

Expand full comment

Sounds like every year lol Chris Stratton and Tyler Beede for examples. And I'm yelling NOOO at people

Expand full comment

Huge contributions in the last two games from... jackson, hatch, and selby? Somehow thats not an error!

Expand full comment

Glad to see it translate to majors, cause Jackson's few Indy appearances showed some intrigued with the amount of swing and misses he got

Expand full comment

Jackson's change looks so hittable when he throws it and they keep swinging through it, lol.

Expand full comment

Probably why they're swinging through it, cause they're thinking the same thing lol

Expand full comment

I hope he continues to get the same result. I think he confused them with his hair as well, lol. It was all over the place when he first came on to pitch and when he came out the next inning he had it banded up. I even thought it was a different guy, lol.

maybe cherington can finally build a good bullpen

A Split, not a Splat. And THIS close to taking 3 of 4.

A very encouraging series. They should have won three of the four games and fought every inning. No sleep walking in this series. Now let’s see if Shelton can get them to carry this enthusiasm and winning mindset forward to the next series and beyond.

Expand full comment

That's an incredible series of growth and learning for the young guys. I hope they all take a minute to reflect and think back on it. Lineups with 5-6 rooks a day and they split with one of the WS favorites and we in every single game. Thats pretty damn cool

Expand full comment

Also, as my NL central stand is firmly "not the reds," it would be a whole bunch of fun to knock them even further down in the race with this bit of momentum

Expand full comment

Yes please. No offense to the Reds but I cannot stand them getting better & their farm being full of top prospects.

...honestly, same goes for the Cubs but I will be happy enough for the Reds to be knocked out first.

Expand full comment

Don't worry, it was all smoke and mirrors to begin with.

They were ridiculously lucky in the first half (+8 BaseRuns!) and have fallen back to earth at 10-16 in the second. Ton of dudes hitting way over their heads, and now the regression monster has come for his fill.

Expand full comment

Even so, I still want to see them crash and burn!

Expand full comment

Heck of a series against an absolutely elite team. Four incredibly entertaining games. Go Bucs!

Expand full comment

Thomas Hatch still had prospect eligibility when the Pirates got him. He lost it in one game

Expand full comment

Lol! Easy come easy go!

Expand full comment

Great series. Played ATL even. Not only 2-2 split, but same # runs as the MLB's best offense.

Against a top rated pitching staff as well.

Raise it! 🏴‍☠️

Well deserved win for Hatch & a very solid series split for the Buccos.
