Gameday 116: Pirates Open Weekend Series Against Reds
After getting a four-game split against the Atlanta Braves, the Pirates wrap up their current home stand with a weekend set against divisional rival Cincinnati Reds.
The last time the Pirates played the Cincinnati Reds, they swept them in a four game series, and have won five of seven overall against their divisional opponent.
That was back in April, which seems like two separate seasons for each team at this point. The Pirates finished the month in first place of the NL Central, and the Reds seemed like they were heading towards another rebuilding season.
Now, the Reds are a half game back from the Wildcard, and the Pirates are fighting to stay out of the bottom of the NL Central basement.
The two teams do have a lot in common, as both have used this year to inject numerous of their top prospects into the major league roster.
Johan Oviedo will be on the mound for the Pirates, facing lefty Andrew Abbott with first pitch scheduled 7:05 pm ET.
