Here's a cautionary tale about StatCast:

According to Stumpf, Skenes threw nine fastballs, six sliders and one change. I'd guess that came from the Pirates, so it's probably authoritative.

According to StatCast, Skenes threw seven four-seamers and two sinkers (OK, nine fastballs), plus four sliders and three cutters.

Congrats to Redbeard on his first career win. đŸ™‚

He’ll probably be sent down in a week (which is too bad, I like him), but they can’t take away the W!

There will come a day when Skenes can throw a ball with more power than Jebb can hit one …

Today’s not that day

My brother is a diehard Mets fan, probably saw 99% of their games (as in every pitch/inning) over the last 4-5 years minimum, probably longer. He will record games and watch them later knowing the score. He watched every game up until around mid-July this year and now he has missed entire games over the last month, probably watching about 50% of what is going on. I'm sure the number will go lower when college football starts up. This season disgusted him and a lot of their diehard fans (according to him)

Condolences to your brother. Let him know that a whole lot of us feel his pain……literally…..deeply…..

Expand full comment

Probably different kinds of pains. Johns brother knows the pain of his team "trying and failing" while we know the pain of "failing while not seriously trying", lol.

You have, and I'll continue to post it as long as he keeps looking good at the plate lol. The 2 walks made me happy tonight, with the single.

Nearly matched his walk output for the whole season /s (kinda)

At least the last couple months before his last week.

The Marauders did give their best effort. Lakeland just would not cooperate and finish the job…..

Real nail biter!

It would be interesting to know how many of the 1,000 or so fans left when it was 14-0 and are checking back to see it's only the 7th inning and it's a two-run game.

Post-Skenes crowd is about 30% of what it was.

The real problem was Chang was left in a good half dozen batters after he was clearly cooked. Didn’t know Grady Little was managing here.

A lot of people left after he was done? Or did they wait around a bit until it got one-sided?

There was a steady trickle for a couple innings.

Dumbo seriously needs to get off the Palacios weed.

If he was right handed, he would at least make more sense as a fillin for jack

Last year when they "discovered" Jared Triolo, they were playing him in a number of defensive positions, including CF - could be a possibility for the Pirates, especially after Oneil Cruz returns to the MI. Triolo has done well at 3B/2B, and has the footspeed and arm to add OF positions.

The power possibilities of Cruz/Peguero in the MI are off the charts - can't remember the Pirates ever having hitters like that in the MI!

The mets pen is probably fried after using 6 pitchers yesterday, hopefully can have some favorable matchups the rest of the series

Skenes must be inspirational. Nadal just hit a slam to make it 14-0 with one out in the third.
