Got home late after drinking a bunch of margaritas with some friends. Watching the highlights, glad to see Heller having some success. Great to see BDLC contribute.
16,635 attendance for Skenes Day? Looks like September check-outs have started early. I'm not rooting for the Pirates to make money by saying this, but I hope Hall of Fame night does well for the inductees.
I think everyone knows it is the strikeout era in baseball, but just wanted to point out on a game where more than half of the outs were strikeouts, the Pirates have their 16th highest strikeout total for batters right now AND their 19th highest total for pitchers. They aren't on pace for the pitching record, but they are for the hitters.
All the strikeouts looking are what drive me nuts. I know occasionally you get fooled by a great pitch or maybe the ump gives a ridiculous strike, but so many look like they pick a zone and a pitch and if it’s anything else they don’t swing. All for it in a hitter’s count, but with two strikes, just how?
I believe it was on his big double with the bases loaded, where BDLC went 2-0 in the count, then swung at a ball out of the zone, before taking a strike call in the zone. Stuff like that definitely drives me nuts, especially when someone swings 2-0 right after a walk or two walks. It never works out, and most times they are just guessing 2-0 fastball and look foolish.
Oneil became the eighth Pirates hitter ever with 150 Ks in a season. I'm wondering if they will bench him late to keep the team record away from him. He needs 36 to tie the record in 35 games, which a little math (150 in 127 team games) will tell you is lower than his current pace
With 7-0 lead in late innings.......too much bother for Shelton to get any bench player in for AB or defense. Dog days of August......but let all 9 starters play complete game in a blowout. Odd.
Well, with a few exceptions, it's kind of a stretch to call anybody on the Pirates a "starter." It's more of a collection of random, marginal guys who happened to be in there in the first inning.
He’s really exceeding what I thought were overly optimistic expectations I had for him. And beyond the talent he just carries himself so well. The real deal in every way.
Booyah!!! 60 in the books and can clinch at least a split tomorrow. Raise it!!!
I’ve barely seen anything about the Pirates resigning Josh Walker to a MiLB deal. Usually on Twitter, the usual suspects at least tweet something out.
Did everyone miss that transaction?
I think I remember that…..Then again I thought that I won the Mega Millions on Tuesday too…..

Mariners fire manager and hitting coach. We need a copycat move.
That would take foresight and guts which is in short supply on our side.
All the moves in baseball I see in like I think to myself "the Pirates would never do that"

I will be there tomorrow.
First day of school for a lot of kids….

Isn't that exactly what they teach?

Block pointed out that every player struck out at least once tonight except for EDLC and Triolo (somewhat ironically since both K a lot).

If they do, he has no chance at the 25-25 season PirateRican21 mentioned.

He often seems to be doing something other than watching the game at hand. Maybe he's bidding on a fursuit or something online
Well he's an odd man.
that was fun.
🏴☠️X 60 🎆🎇
only need to win 3 more to ensure not getting 100 losses ;-)
Wow, goals there.
Ya jinxed us!
🤞🤣
After getting only 4 hits his first 34 ABs (.118) with the Pirates, I think BDLC now has 12 hits in his last 34 ABs (.353).
Baseball
Now Ben Heller turning into a shutdown RP as everyone expected
I think you need to pump the brakes on that one.
I wouldn't get too excited, but I really didn't think he was the guy who flamed out so quickly before.
I hope you're right man.
We were believers, sort of…..
Cincy fans are going to be so angry after this game, and that's wonderful
Indianapolis had a 6-3 lead when they started to bring in the major league relievers who are rehabbing.
It’s now 6-6
Chandler had a rough 1st inning,
4 h 3 r 1 w 2 k with the 3 runs on a hr.
1 h 0 r 0 w 4 k his last 4 innings.
_Oh good_
It actually is good to see a young pitcher recover from a bad 1st inning and throw 4 more shutdown innings!
Sounds like another great outing, and he's probably locked up a top 2 finish in ROY.
Happy for BLDC--who thought he'd be the more productive LDC tonight?
6 IP 9 Ks
Nice

We've got a close CY vote. Not so quick Chris Sale.
