The lack of a true CFer almost cost the Pirates another game. You could make the case that it cost them game 1 of this series. This is an area they really need to address in the off-season. More important than 1B in my opinion. There are a number of possible internal options for 1B, including even trying McCutchen there, but I don't see any internal solution to CF, because I am not sold on Gorski.
Repeat after me: Nick Gonzalez has no trade value. None. Do you think other teams can’t see that he can’t hit breaking stuff and that he’s entering his age 25 season? All the trade proposals on this site centered on Gonzalez and other scraps are a total waste of time. Please stop.
These are his OPS numbers at every level of minor league ball since being drafted!
A ball- .950 OPS
AA ball- .812 OPS
Aaa ball- .848 OPS
To say he has no trade value is crazy! Glad you are not our GM and giving these kind of players away. Nick will be a good MLB player but with our surplus of middle infielders, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him included in a trade package
His value is low to several teams, but to say no trade value is wrong. There's at least five probably more teams that would place moderate value to him. A team like Seattle that has little production at the major league or upper minors at second. Philadelphia that has struggled to find a good backup infielder (2nd, 3rd and short "sorry Rudy") and have worse options in the upper minors. The Angel's and Blue Jays that will most likely see their 2nd basemen leave in free agency and have worse options in the upper minors. The A's, Royals and White Soxs that are in rebuild mode and don't really have anyone staking a claim at 2nd other than maybe the A's and their player has k issues as well.
My point is that you’re not going to get a championship quality player at a position of need by packaging Gonzalez and a bunch of other players of similar or lesser value. Not going to happen. You’ll get an equally marginal prospect who might or might not work out or a mediocre veteran.
Gonzalez’s prospect status has been in decline and he no longer figures in any top 100 list. If you’re optimistic about Gonzalez in the mid-term, and choose to ignore his complete inability to control the strike zone, then hang on to him and use him as a utility infielder/back up in Pittsburgh and cut bait with Marcano and play Bae in centerfield.
I agree with him not being high value, I put moderate value on him. I wouldn't want to give him away for another moderate prospect though unless it filled a hole. Ben should be digging deep into other operations surplus for the pirates area of need CF, 1st base and always pitching. To get a high value prospect or established player back it'll cost more than NickyG, but he could be the add on to push a trade through. The only teams I can remember really pushing a NickyG trade is to Seattle for pick 30 in the draft before he made his mlb debut. He was tearing up triple A pitching at the time. The other is the Halos because I have an unrealistic desire for the pirates to get Schanuel (really think he is going to be the generational hitter from this draft class). As unrealistic as a trade for him would be, I think a package that would make them think twice could include Triolo, NickyG, Priester, Sullivan and a Jebb, Forrester, Barco or Nunez.
Exactly correct. He has some value, though it is not high. Packaging him with Davis and maybe one of their higher level pitching prospects would probably net the Pirates a young player that they could use at a position of need. I would not be surprised to see a move like this in the off-season.
For context, the Pirates have had 4 40-save seasons. Melancon has the record at 51. Williams, Hanrahan and Mesa each had one with 40+. Two more will put Bednar in fifth place. He has 36 now.
Never really took a dive into Alika's offensive #s, but if his reverse splits are really a thing going forward, he's actually playable on offense vs RHP, with a .725 OPS. Granted SSS applies, but why start him vs LHP if he's mostly there for his defense?
Delay was struck out 2 pitches earlier on a curve ball not called. But he was ready for it the next time. How many of hitters can't adjust during an AB???
For those interested, the MLB record for consecutive Ks in consecutive games is 13, held by Jim Hannan of the Senators (the NL record is only 9, held by several).
Sure enough, the moron sends Jackson BACK out for another inning and right away, it's tied. What's the point of even playing the games if your idiot manager won't do anything at all to try to win?
If I’m cherington, Davis is playing catcher every day next season for Indianapolis and Andujar is playing fall / winter ball at 1b. He’s got something the Buccos desperately need- RH power.
Davis is completely lost. No confidence, lost that enthusiasm.

buy low on Marte
He can’t stay healthy. Would not be the answer

what you are saying is true
i am guilt of this

whether he will be a good mlb player and whether he has any trade value right now are two separate things

Gorski hit his 20th homerun of the season.
Roansy not exactly making a case to return.
Maybe the Blue Jays would go for a change of scenery for their struggling starter.
I know bmac would be all over that
Down to 6!! Whoop whoooopp!!!
That’s the Bednar I want to see!
40 saves maybe?
For context, the Pirates have had 4 40-save seasons. Melancon has the record at 51. Williams, Hanrahan and Mesa each had one with 40+. Two more will put Bednar in fifth place. He has 36 now.
Bednar had command today. Makes all the difference. Raise it!
A weeks worth of swing and misses for Bednar!
Angie prolly passed out somewhere with all of the swing and miss stuff 😁

Delay!!!!

The Pirates sure Haint got many of them.
Travis Sawchik said we'd all be desperately missing Dredges about now. I don't think so. Delay isn't a good hitter, but he's not a dead body up there.
I think delay is a serviceable backup catcher for next year to put behind endy. Definitely not missing hedges

Davis could do it this week.
As Catch22 said, he has definitely lost iit
I like doubles triolo
Is Hernandez hurt?
Pitched to last batter yesterday so that would be no.
Maybe I shouldn’t had turn off that game.
Hallelujah. Dumbo locks the barn door.

We have an off day tomorrow......why is Derry trying to save his bullpen?

Davis is completely lost. No confidence, lost that enthusiasm.
I want him to get it back, hes got that infectious energy that could drive a clubhouse imo
It’s like he passed it off to JP
