Was just thinking this yesterday! It honestly might be best for him to spend a half season at AAA raking & learning to play some C/1B/RF defense. New position defensively & MLB pitching just seems to be too much to handle all at once.
Keller with 199 strikeouts, ties Larry McWilliams for the 11th most in franchise history for a season. Just ten away from the team record for right-handed pitchers...in case he wants to get that record tonight
You can always count on Connor Joe to whiff in a key spot. Only the dumbest manager in baseball would mistake him for a cleanup hitter. Unfortunately, the Pirates have that manager.
I am going on record right now that I like the pirates chances to do better against the Cubs next year than they have this year. I know it's really getting out on that limb, but the Pirates of 2023 are not that bad and the Cubs are not that good.
I like the fact that the Cubs have a former MLB player as their Manager, as do the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Cincy Reds all of whom are ahead of us in the standings. The Pirates have Derek Shelton, but I see BC as the person to get the credit for the Pirates improvement in 2023. He secured a huge amount of young talent, and getting many of them to the MLB level in 2023 has been the key to the Pirates winning much more than they did the past 3 years (he was also responsible for those pitiful performances of the past 3 years). Those young players and pitchers have been contributors in 2023 and will continue to be contributors for the Pirates in the future. BC also secured players like Carlos Santana, 'Cutch, VV, and Connor Joe to assist those younger players in their development .
Had this team had a healthy VV, Bru, and Cruz play the whole year, that like 30 game losing streak in the middle of the season may not have happened and we could be looking at a team at .500 on the year or better. This isn't a good team yet, but I can definitely see the improvements.
I didn’t mind when VV went down because, looking at his career, he figured to be a +5 ERA pitcher the rest of the season due to regression to his norm. Cruz however, would have easily flipped five losses to win, and Brubaker would’ve saved us from bullpen games every other day.
I dunno. I would value Endy in the top 10 Maybe Mlodzinski Oviedo, Davis and Peguero. That is just most valuable on the current roster. Not saying theyare top tier currently but they all have postential to be top tier and therefore valuable. I would not count even Skenes or Temarr yet as neither are playing in the bigs yet. The moment they hit the show they will be in the 10 most valuable player category.
5 more!! Need 5 more!!!!!
Whoop whoooop!!! Nice finish by Stratton, Hunter Stratton!!
I guess he realized his stuff plays if he just throws strikes?
Good offensive outburst!
Think my Looney Toons baseball march around the bases Gif 😁
BOOM!!! Goes Joe!!!
Connor joe!
Interesting article on oviedo over on fangraphs (sorry if someone already brought this over): https://blogs.fangraphs.com/what-should-johan-oviedo-try-next/
Why Mitch, why? Get it together and finish the 6th.
If Cy Young himself pitched for the Pirates he couldn’t get Happ out.
UGH!
After watching 17 different guys tryout for 2b the last 2-3 seasons, Triolo might be the guy.
Triolo and peggy up the middle?
Triolo with the bomb.
BOOM!!!!
Hey i like this team again!
Peguero should be our starting SS next year, Cruz should try RF this offseason!
I’m having a hard time picturing Davis making the team out of ST next year, can’t field, hit.

#200 in the second inning
#202 puts Keller in the top ten. Tied with Gerrit Cole's best season for the Pirates
Good day to remember Bob Veale.
Four seasons of 213 K's or more.
I'm sure you have the list, but I'm working from memory.
Now past Cole.
Appreciate the context.

Please let this be Hayes from now on!

Has Derek Shelton improved?

Quite literally not one young cherington acquisition is within the top 10 most valuable players on this club.

Davis, as in Henry?
That may be an accurate list using the VIBES metric, WAR not so much unfortunately.
