Never really thought about this much until I was on a couple of boards and people whining even after this win tonight. Read on poster trying to claim that since after 125 games, the Pirates were sitting at 53-72 and that proved Ross was right. The poster was slightly off, the Bucs we 56-69. In the 30 games since, the Bucs are 18-12. That’s a .600 clip for the 30 games. People are whining about Shelton and the staff. When you think about him having a lineup with as many rookies and guys with less than 2 seasons of MLB experience fielding the positions plus only 2 pitchers who are truly starting pitchers in Keller and Oviedo on the mound and the pen full of rookies or with MLB experience, getting a team to win 60% of their games over a 30 game stretch means they have to be doing something right.

if it werent for Shelton, we´d be talking about a wild card birth right now

I think the end of this season is the biggest endorsement of shelton that i have seen during his tenure. To have a team playing this hard with this much intensity in the last few weeks of the season is so refreshing

It's really that some credit is due BC for the current group of 14 position players. There is actual competition going on for '24 jobs.....that's why young players are going to play with intensity in Sept. I don't give much credit to DS.

To have your team playing .600 ball with 1 legitimate starting pitcher. If it is fair to credit Shelton when they lose one must also give credit to Shelton when they win. That they are competing for a job means they are playing for the guy that will decide their fate. If they did not believe in him they would not play for him now. We have seen Penguins teams quit on their head coach because they did not like the coach even if they were a very good coach.

The 2 guys signed for long-term contracts are producing at high-levels. Some of the waiver claims are coming up big as well. I saw the piggy-back pitching opportunity 2 months ago, so if I could see it a Head Coach should also have seen it.....it was a no-brainer really out of necessity.

Yeah .600 ball is fun.....but Shelton is Shelton....players like him, but can he lead a winning team playing pressure-packed games next year in Sept.

Well, hopefully we will be finding out a year from now. 😁

So when the team was losing badly it was the players fault as Shelton himself pointed out in many a presser but when the players play better the winning is because of Shelton. The major thing expected out of any manager is giving his team the best chance to win. Shelton's line ups and bullpen usage throughout the season doesn't meet that standard in my opinion.

Never been a fan of David Bell even though he's my cousin but I'm fairly sure this was his final strike if the Reds don't make the playoffs.

I heard he already got a contract extension, so it's not his final strike.

His team went from 62 Wins to. ? Maybe 82+ so he's safe for now.

You're probably right and he does have history with the Reds.

That banging sound coming out of Ohio isn’t coming from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it’s the Pirates hammering the nail in the Reds coffin!

Let’s Go Bucs!!!

I'm not sure, but I think the Reds might need some help with their pitching staff.
