I'm picturing Matt Arnold in the Brewers box looking down at the Pirates and mimicking the Will Ferrell scene from Wedding Crashers, as Ben and Co. hang glide into a cliff
Arnold is a GM who worked his way up and is definitely not afraid to pull the trigger, as seen in the trade of Corbin Burnes in February 2024, prior to the start of his walk year. Huge Cojones!
Not surprised - it is the Pirates. Palacios at 29 is a journeyman kept at the AAA level in case of injury. Could this be a form of farewell recognition?
He's the kind of player who you keep unless someone better is available. He may bounce on and off several teams' roster of her the winter. You don't worry about guys like this, there are plenty available. He's pitched well enough for the Pirates, but only because he has hit a homerless streak. Won't last.
So, fellas, did Rowdy Roddy Tellez decide for some reason to fall back under the spell of Andy Haines instead of "doing it his way" or can you all accept he was full of shit?
He was likely full of shit. Rowdy had a hot streak, after a colossally awful start, only to just be basically the same mediocre hitter he's been in his career.
The ball he hit to right center, probably less than 1/2 inch to the heart of the barrel and he would have had another dinger.
Still great contact and effective.
Didn't like what Shelton said about him pulling the ball more as he gets more mlb experience. Sometimes it's better to stay with the approach that works.
That's what a major league team would do. This isn't a major league team. The priority is justifying BC's blunders, not trying to move the team forward.
Not a great look for Suwinski when you call guys up for a late look and he is not on the list. He made improvements at Indy lately but he is a complete wild card heading into next season
I took a $20 per person tour of PNC Park on last Saturday, 84 degrees. The air conditioning was shut off in several rooms including the press room.
If you don’t think the Tellez is this year’s Juan Nicasio DFA move — (with the admitted exception that Nicasio was actually good), I have a Clemente bridge I’d like to sell you.
Thinking The AC is shut down or thermostat turned way up on non event days. Worked at North Allegheny Schools while in college cleaning. Back then, they shut the AC down in the high school except for the offices in the summer. Many buildings do that.
I'm ok with that idea, but then we are counting on BC to get a legit outfielder(maybe even 2 if they decide to part ways with DeLaCruz.) I have no faith in BC or Nutting.
I think the plan for BRey @1b has as much to do with allowing the multi-position guys to do their thing, so while it would be nice to get a real OF bat, I'm not counting on that. Assuming Hayes is back (no pun intended) and useful, you need to find homes for Triolo (if his Sept bat is real) and Yorke (assuming Nicky G has 2b). Then you've got one of Cook/Palacios, and of course Cruz. IIRC, Peggy has played some OF, as has IKF.
I don't think it's a winning roster, but it's something BC would do. And if I'm right about above, you can probably assume Shelton is back too.

Yeah, a small market GM can't be cheap AND timid.
love this line, damn.
I'm so glad Palacios is back so they didn't have to pressure Billy Cook too much in a big spot

Well, Mattson at least had some decent Stuff+ initially. Curious to see after this game.
Cook ain’t it
Yes, as he crosses that 40 career at bat threshold. Cut him loose!
Only one of him and de la Cruz can stay on next years club
I say we go fish
Goodbye BDLC if that is the choice. That’s any easy one. Cook, at least is a more dynamic fielder, more versatile, and, hopefully will hit better.
How about neither.
now we're getting somewhere! ;)
Ah, another Cherington/Shelton competitive game. The improvement never stops.
Now 3-8 since Ben's announcement that he expected Shelton back, and outscored 57-25.
This is Ben's idea of success. Losing noncompetitive games with guys he likes to hang out with.
Wentz keeps his spot on the 40man this winter?

10 k’s in 8 innings with 2.25 era so far with us
Left handed to boot
High pedigree
In mid July it looked like Reynold’s had a shot at 30 homers and 100 RBI’s, not so much now…
.640 OPS for the month before tonight. Worst month of the year for him.
So, fellas, did Rowdy Roddy Tellez decide for some reason to fall back under the spell of Andy Haines instead of "doing it his way" or can you all accept he was full of shit?
Just another in a long, long line of failed 1B for Pirates.
He was likely full of shit. Rowdy had a hot streak, after a colossally awful start, only to just be basically the same mediocre hitter he's been in his career.
Which young Indian is in Ryan's picture up top?
Yorke, I think
Lovely swing.

Why isn’t peguero starting?
Why not DFA Tellez and MAT at the end of August so that they had a chance of being picked up as bench players by a team in contention?
In any case, I'd be surprised if either does better than a minor league deal with an NRI for ST.

Hope Bailey has a solid most likely final start and lead the team to #74. Best ‘em Bucs!!!
Been traveling....was there an update on Endy? Nothing serious, I hope
They're saying it's just fatigue and that the news is "generally good." No structural issues.
Thanks! That's a relief

Could buy a $5 game ticket on stub hub and wander all over the joint.
I don’t believe the press box is climate controlled?

I actually did the tour myself once, and I swore they told us that room wasn’t climate controlled for some reason. Might be misremembering though.
door slammed on any possible return for rowdy in 2025
we´re now looking at endy fulltime at first in 2025?
Why on earth would we want a -0.5 fWAR player back? There are all sorts of sub-replacement players BC hasn't employed yet.
Bob won't pay for an upgrade. Most likely whoever they get(if they get anyone at all) will be just as bad.
I’d guess Wilmer Flores. No trades or depth added.
I'm assuming it's going to be BRey @1b at this point.

I’m not. BRey will be starting LF and some slug nobody wanted but BC will be starting 1B. Might even be Tellez.
I’m done getting my expectations up on this front office.
Maybe we can shoot for someone replacement level next year? Small steps.
i agree
i think dismissing him a week early removes any doubt about it
whereas letting him play six more games would clearly lean comments toward anticipating his return
