Barco with 5 more scoreless innings with 6 SO’s for Altoona.

Give that man a promotion!

They're building up his innings in the hope he'll be a future starter. I'm cool with letting him build up those innings. Pushing the issue is how you get another Roansy Contreras.

Buzz kill.

Is building up a guy to be a killer leftie SP for years really a buzz kill, though?

Bear in mind we're talking about a guy who has never pitched 100 innings in a year, even in college. Paul Skenes he ain't.

Why can’t he be built up in AAA? Clearly AA hitters aren’t challenging him enough for his development.

The whole notion of babying grown men mentality that exists in professional sports is dragging the sport in the wrong direction.

I say challenge players to see what their capable of, and this is a clear case of a player who needs a new challenge.

Load management is a thing in the age of analytics, and I think there's a pretty good argument for load management when it comes to a guy who with a major injury on his record and hasn't pitched real SP innings ever.

I do think challenging players by raising their competition level is also a legitimate thing. We certainly know from GMNH's days what it looks like when an organization isn't promoting guys fast enough. So I don't think GMBC's regime can be tagged with that level of negligence.

Barco is in AA and will be in AAA soon enough. It doesn't bother me.

You hit a dude in the face, intentional or not, opposing team going to get their revenge.

Unwritten rules of baseball are Old Testament

I wouldn’t be opposed to every pitcher who hits a batter with a fastball in the head/neck are getting booted.

Has no place in game and Pitchers should suffer a consequence of such a dangerous pitch, whether intentional or not.

Hank’s play this time around has been encouraging thus far. Looks like he really improved on defense. Not striking out as much. I’m still skeptical that he’ll ever consistently hit major league pitching, but has power potential this team desperately needs.

Shugart is on the roster why?

Seems to be a placeholder until Bednar or Holderman returns. Not sure what to hope for there.

I wanted to see Stratton back soon, but he’s been bad at Indy.

Why not? Unless you're bringing up one of the studs to be a pen guy, Shugart is doing just fine. Let's complain when he gets lit up a couple times.

Nothing wrong with carrying 1 garbage time reliever. The problem is when you have 3.

Maybe Lopez is great friends with Dejong. But in a one-run game you can't be throwing at people, so can't see how the umps came to that conclusion.

Funny, when Lopez blew a game against the Bucs last year, both BRey and Cutch went yard against him.... both batters hit in the same inning tonight....

.....Long grudges maybe?

Lopez has had pretty good control over the years. I think the umps knew something was up. They are on the field. They sense vibes.

Nats are reporting there was a warning given to both teams. Don't know if pre-game or when?

Expand full comment
Mark Viglione's avatar

Yea, seemed like the way even the ump walked out after reynolds was hit seemed like he was trying to keep control. So a second one after that and he's gone

Aurorus Borealus's avatar

Well.. the Pirates have hit a lot of batters this season, but there is no way that Keller did that on purpose yesterday, so the Nats reaction was over the top.

Expand full comment
1979andCounting's avatar

No wasn't intentional by Keller, but it was the end result of sending a guy to the hospital, broken nose, stitches, and costing him X number of games, hurting their team. So I could see pre-game warnings.
