I'm a EEO kind of guy so what exactly does the President of the Pittsburgh Pirates do. What does Travis Williams actually do, lol. Probably not anything baseball related, lol.
Stayed with it until I saw they had gotten the Center from WVU. The way they went about it, the tackle in the 1st Round and the "take charge" C in the 2nd Round was just how they had drawn it up. Identifying needs and doing your best to finding fits to satisfy those needs.
I know. We're getting one of those pitching-heavy teams that's never going deep in the playoffs when they do get there. Won't be able to go blow-for-blow against the big hitting teams.
When you can pitch and play D, you are in every game. Glad to see Priester have a strong outing. And the Offense - 8 hits last night and the table was set twice for our current best hitter, this team is just starting to get it all together.
They aren't going to the playoffs. I gave them a 10% chance at the beginning of the season, but I have to lower that now having taken a better look at the competition. San Diego has a better team; New York has a better team; Milwaukee has a better team; Arizona... to say nothing of Chicago, Philly, Atlanta, and LA. Cincy and San Fran also may have better teams. It would take a lot of injuries to other teams and a lot of good luck for the Pirates to make the playoffs.
There will be no playoffs with this crew running the club. They have no one in the minors who can hit. They ruin the few hitting prospects that they do have. They waste tens of millions of dollars every off-season on AAAA players to fill all the holes that they have been unable to fill via the draft, international amateur free agency, and player development.
5 years... the team still does not have 1 draft pick from the Cherington era who can hit a baseball from a major-league pitcher and absolutely zero from the 24 or 25 million they have spent on amateur free agents.
The manager is a complete meathead who just wants everyone to like him. That always ends in disaster and clubhouse blowups, once you have actual veterans on the team who want to win, and not a bunch of AAAA guys trying to hang on one more year under the lights or subpar rookies hoping to make it.
I like the pitching development. Consequently, I think the team's ceiling is something like the recent Cleveland or Milwaukee teams that can one-and-done in the playoffs. Eventually.
No... but that Murphy meathead in Milwaukee could give Shelton a run for his money in the stupid category... a second and home double steal with your best hitter up. Sacrifice bunt in the 4th inning?
And Bednar joins the clown show by getting to 1-2 on the leadoff hitter, getting called for a clock violation and going on to walk the guy. Does anybody in the entire organization even know what sport they're playing?
We are in the fifth year of this present regime and the organization is still terrible at the game of baseball but their incompetence still gets them a lot of high draft picks.
Bart would have been the right call, coming back to SF to beat his old team.....it was easy decision. He knows Doval's stuff. Get in Doval's head facing Bart.
It's pathetic. Make Triolo the utility infielder and put Gonzo at second. Nick Gonzalez is the only minor leaguer that's a prospect that's actually hitting. Tellez
“Fun” stat, Newman with more homers (2) in about a 1/3 of the at bats that Tellez and Davis combined.

Crud….. still stuck on 13 down and now 135 to go……..
If you haven't noticed, the Steelers are having their second excellent draft in a row. New GM is killing it.

Their 2nd pick of the 3rd round was LB Payton Wilson, little Brother of Bryse Wilson.
Have been incredibly impressed by the draft so far. That linebacker can move.
It's like they know what they are doing.
And Roman Wilson will be an upgrade over DJ.
TWT
How long is the “Bednar didn’t pitch enough in spring training” excuse valid for?
Two “all-star caliber” back end bullpen pieces and can’t depend on either in close games. Unreal.
Talent is volatile in professional sports so you probably want someone in charge who is capable of dealing with that, lol. We are so screwed!
Feckless in key situations. Utterly bereft of feck.
Gotta hit the fucking ball
Nothing like pissing away Priester's first good start. Uh. This froggin team.
They have pissed away a lot of good starts this season. It is basically their team identity.

PLAYOFFS?.....PLAYOFFS?
I didn't mean this season. I mean the eventual version that comes out of The Rebuild. Ya know, the version that has Paul Skenes for a full season.

It is bad.
I like the pitching development. Consequently, I think the team's ceiling is something like the recent Cleveland or Milwaukee teams that can one-and-done in the playoffs. Eventually.
And none of those teams have Derek Shelton as a manager or Andy "WTF" Haines as a hitting coach.

Sad but true
I was yelling put Bailey on......
Damn
This was all very on-brand for this team.
When Haines unemployed?
Cruz is gimpy. Was limping in that run-down and isn't showing much range at short. Definitely hurting

Add a three run Homer to puncuat the loss.
Fitting end to this clown show.
Doval is filthy and we had him on the ropes. He has some nasty stuff along with 100 if he needs it.
Exactly why you don't give him the added benefit of facing your absolute worst hitter with the game on the line.
Bart would have been the right call, coming back to SF to beat his old team.....it was easy decision. He knows Doval's stuff. Get in Doval's head facing Bart.
This whole team is Feckin’ unbelievable. Tellez as a pinch hitter? Has Shelton watched any of his ABs over the last month?
Veteranosity trumps reason in a certain Manager’s mind, in case you haven’t been paying attention.
I would have rather seen Alika, he probably could have laid down a bunt.
My first thought when Tellez stepped to the plate: are you fucking kidding?
It's pathetic. Make Triolo the utility infielder and put Gonzo at second. Nick Gonzalez is the only minor leaguer that's a prospect that's actually hitting. Tellez
Tellez really should be working on learning Korean at this point.
Some may hate it, but i love cutch pimping his walks
