Black is a good manager, but I was surprised that they didn't try to get Cruz to chase one instead of putting themselves in a position where Mears had to throw strikes to Suwinski (Black had to know that Mears would face Suwinski or Tellez in place of MAT). Maybe Black was afraid that if they were trying to get Cruz to chase, Mears might throw another wild pitch?
This game hugely endorses what BC has done with the Pirates pitching prospects since he took charge. He now needs to grow a pair and clear house on the hitting side.
Haines must go and probably Shelton too. Give the reigns to Donny Kelly and find a new hitting coach.
I was kinda of joking the other day but I'd call Randy Mazey after the WVU season is over as the hitting coach on an interm bases (end of the season). Give Kelly a shot at manager and time to work on his staff after the season.
Mazey is retiring at the end of the season and is from Johnstown.
Regardless of what we think of Olivares, how about Shelton asking a guy who has 1 sacrifice bunt in 847 MLB PAs to bunt in such a high-leverage situation? His two attempts looked like what you'd expect from someone being asked to do something that he doesn't do. If you're going to bunt there, pinch hit Williams who is a good bunter. Just poor managing that could have cost us the game.
These starting pitchers should all be heading to the transfer portal. I know, wrong sport, but this total lack of offensive support is beyond ridiculous.

The Rockies bullpen roster is to blame, Black had no LH to pitch to Cruz, unless he goes to Beeks for the 3rd day in a row.
That's on GM and Black.
An Elias Diaz double away from a perfect game. But I loved how Jones responded to that leadoff double.
It feels hilariously on-brand for this team to break an offense-free losing streak with a 1-0 win behind their best SP.
Haines fired when?
Can u say…..Matt Canada?!
It's not a Pittsburgh sports conversation until we retraumatize ourselves.
ASAP
This doesn’t feel like a win, it just feels like the Rockies wanted to lose more than we did.

No doubt about it.... haha.
Whoop whoop!!!!! Jack comes through! 15 down and 128 to go!!!!
well i'll be, they actually scored
A win! I forgot what that feels like.
Thataboy Jacko!
A wild pitch is our best offensive weapon
And diaz might be good for a PB
Olivares is on a 3-for-38 tear. Another Cherington success story.
I get the results haven’t been there, but the expected stats are telling us to stick with the process.

I tried to tell ya'll... he had one good week last year. Otherwise... this is who he is.
I'm sure many of us were not banging the table for Olivares, lol.
Some folk were trying to find the silver lining in that bizarre move. But... yeah.. I don't think anyone was pounding the table for Olivares... lol.
Considering he was basically replacing Palacios he had a really low bar to get over, lol.
He still may not clear it. Taylor I can understand even if I don’t like it. But Olivares is cheeks in the field and at the plate.
Well, Cherington acquired him. Nuf sed.
Nick Mears??
Bud Black is openly mocking Shelton et al at this point.
Must try small ball with a runner on first... surely?
"Try" would imply effort. A couple poorly executed square ups.
The umps expanding the zone all of a sudden really isn't helping.
They did but like everything else they don't do well bunting is right up there and then he looks at strike three!
Shelton doesn’t want the hitters to get all the credit for being shut out.
Offense?? OFFENSE??!!
The only think "offensive" about this club, is how offensive we are to watch at the plate
