Cutch is now 9-55 with runners on base and 21-63 with the bases empty. He simply doesn’t produce unless no one is on and it’s been that way since returning.

Actually loved this game, the NY crowd energy,

and watching Skenes is just awesome. But we have to win on the margins, and we still have coaches costing us. Rabelo freezes like a deer in headlights not sending Triolo. Who's calling pitch selection by Bednar to Soto and Alonso in the 9th? And we should have walked Alonso in the 9th.....does Donnie know how locked in Alonso is hitting this season?

And one player is costing us big-time. We definitely aren't going to win with his cold bat.

10 days off and IKF is not crow-hopping his throws. Hmmm. Fresh arm I would guess.

Did not think IKF would go deep this year. Ok Tommy, pressure's on now to match it.......but not holding my breath.

Stop blaming the bullpen. If this team didn't have an absolutely bullshit AA batting order, no one would be too bothered winning 5-4.

I enjoy thinking about the draft and watching the minors but what I really would enjoy is having our major league team be good and in contention again. Nutting should have just ripped the bandaid off and fired Shelton AND BC because this is ridiculous.

This game was very much on brand for the 2025 Pirates.

If DK doesn’t move Reynolds down in the order tomorrow, the honeymoon is officially over for his managerial stint with me.

It doesn’t matter what he does. This team is incapable of scoring more than four runs. An absolute offensive nightmare with no excuse for injuries. Horwitz and Gonzales would probably help, but they ain’t Judge and Witt.

They post 5 or 6 runs, it’s a W.

But at least Horwtiz and Gomzales look like potential long-term MLB pieces. Which is a hell of lot more than you can say for Canario, Pham, Davis, Frazier, et al.

The offense is the story of our ineptitude. As you say a few more runs and we are winning a number of games we have dropped. The bullpen hasn’t been great, but every freakin’ game it’s a one run game.

It’s a nightmare. Every damn game is the same.

You build a team to win 3-2, and you're gonna lose a lot of 4-3 games.

They aren't built to win 3-2. They are built to lose 4-3. To win 3-2, you need to play smallball... good baserunning, bunting, hitting behind the runner, good contact skills. They can't do any of that. You need to have solid, consistent defense. They don't. You need to have a deep bullpen, because you are going to be playing a lot of close games and not many mop up situations. Their bullpen is 4 deep and has been all season.

My point was mainly that you can't build a modern baseball team to win 3-2, hence all the 4-3 losses.

It would like trying to reconstruct the Ray Lewis-era Ravens strategy in the 2025 NFL. Trying to regularly win 12-9. It would just be asking for bad beat after bad beat.

The Pirates just set the all time club record for consecutive games with four runs or fewer. 18 and counting.

Just walk Alonso and pray for DP

Yeah pitching to Alonso in that spot was a bit of a head scratcher tbh. Nevermind the 3-1 fastball. You have to make Nimmo beat you there IMO

Just once I want to see the Pirates get a bases clearing double with men on base. They only score on infield singles and the occasional solo HR.

This is what happens when your good hitters can actually hit

That was his 6th this year.
