I'm a Kelly fan but I didn't like the bunt call. The cliche of play for a tie at home and a win on the road is a cliche for a reason, and it seemed like he was playing for the tie by giving up the out. Plus, while I think Frazier is playing too much, he is someone I have confidence in getting a big hit.
IIRC, many of us predicted that when he was initially injured, given the symptoms. By the time he pitches for us again, he'll have three years of service time and therefore be in his first arb year. I guess at least Bob will be happy because his arb value will be so low.
Yeah, we'll have gotten 3 months of pitching for 3 years of service. Not Jones' fault of course, but it's a reminder of not putting too much faith in pitching prospects.
I really want to believe that Chuck from uniontown is a parody performed brilliantly. When I went to games, it was like clockwork hearing him on the way home.
Given the news on Jones (which needs to be verified as this wouldn't be the first time Perrotto was wrong), starting him on the IL-7 with the expectation that he'll be back soon doesn't mean anything to me.
Woo hoo. I think that if all the stars align, I may be going to the Dominican Republic next June to take in a little Dominican Summer League action and try some of the food.
We'll see. I am not 100% certain what teams are near our host's house. We will be staying with a guy whose books I am editing, and I know that he lives somewhere in Santo Domingo and that his cousin is some type of coach for one of the DSL teams. I have to look everything up and see where we can go and what is available.
I wasn't a big fan of the Hague hire. I know that the players in Toronto seemed to like him, but so what.. really. The Blue Jays, outside of Guerrero, were a bad hitting team last year. Can we not find people who have had track records of success for any position in the organization? Why does everyone come from a loser?
I actually thought Hague might help a little bit. He does seem to have an outlook and background that differ from Haines’. And Haines had a track record of failure with two other teams, so it seemed likely he was exacerbating problems that Birdbrain had created.
Instead, Hague illustrates just how deeply rooted Birdbrain’s failures are. As in, it’s so effing horrendous that a coaching change can’t make even the slightest dent. Of course, we’re seeing that with Kelly now, too.
Agree, my point is their not doing their homework before each game, each series, preparing the hitters for the pitchers they'll be seeing. Get the hitters on the VR Batting simulator that Bob allegedly has purchased thru the org. That's on the hitting coaches.
Our hitters will never be Ted Williams but they should be better than they are showing.
I love the discussions on here about extending Skenes, of which I never touch. It's laughable that Skenes would want to continue his career as a Pirate. Let's be serious.
Anybody know what the status of Oviedo is?
Not close.

Frazier can’t hit with that giant fork sticking out of his bat. He sucks.
This isn’t 2019. The 2025 version of Frazier inspires no confidence of anything good with the bat.
And after that half inning, I became glad that I'll be blacked out for the next three games against the Reds.
John Perrotto reporting Jared Jones will likely need TJ: https://pittsburghbaseballnow.com/jared-jones-tommy-john-surgery-pittsburgh-pirates/
Per DKPS, this report may have been premature.
Interesting. I believe Stumpf and Hiles reported there’s something to it though they didn’t go as far as Perrotto
It's obviously on the table, unfortunately.

He has a visit with the surgeon on Tuesday. Tommy John is an option.

Anyway, this stinks.
I think we kinda saw this coming after his initial IL stint last season. Had they pulled the plug and had TJ then, it’d look much better
Wasn’t that a lat injury last year though? I only played operation a couple of times, but I thought that’s a different part of the body.
We played Operation as a drinking game in college. Sometime it was pretty tough to keep those hands steady.
Didn't you learn the song in Kindergarten.. "The shin bone is connected to the ankle bone..."
Also, operation doesn't count. You had to have played doctor with a girl as a boy before qualifying to comment on medical matters.
So he will probably be back in '27. The hits keep coming, except for the pirates hitters.
Think of all the 2-1 losses he won't be able to pitch!

My 12-year-old: “How does this team make me depressed even when I’m not watching them?”
Chuck from Uniontown calling for a fan junta to replace Nutting LMAO
If Chuck led, I’d follow.
I really want to believe that Chuck from uniontown is a parody performed brilliantly. When I went to games, it was like clockwork hearing him on the way home.
We need to get Chuck from Uniontown in touch with Big Ed from Homestead.
Barco to IL-7.
Great news. Or wait... that's the only MiLB injury list... so not great news.
They have IL-60 and a full-season IL, so there’s that. Although they usually hold off a while before transferring a guy to either.

Hope you see Darrell Morel. Since the Dodgers wanted him and not just Birdbrain, maybe he can play.

I have no earthly idea where they're based.
Is the "Baseball City" division in Santo Domingo?
Another wasted start for Paul. Welcome to the Pirates
Maybe not entirely wasted in that it calls more attention to Cherington's inability to build a roster around him.
We've got zero clutch hitters, really missing Nicky G who actually hits in the clutch. Even
Valdez could have helped and he's out. Someone, anyone, needs to start hitting in the clutch situations.
Just saw Endy hit his 2nd HR in as many days. Might as well get him up while he is hot.
If I was Skenes, I’d be in the Manager’s office demanding to be allowed to hit. Can’t do any worse.
If I was Skenes, I would be in the GM'S office demanding to be traded.
Shelton sitting in his recliner at home, cracks open another IC light and smiles.
Close, he's sippin' bourbon.
If adorned wants to win with this team he has to pitch a shutout and pray that they can score a run. Something that seems impossible!
Pirates have lost 4 straight Skenes starts. He’s pitched 25 innings and given up 7 runs in those outings.
2.44 ERA for the season and Pirates have lost 7 of his 10 starts.
This is historic shit we’re seeing here.
The post game guys are talking about our hitting approaches. They're not saying his name, but they're indicting Hague big time as they should be.
My God, the players suck, it’s not the coaching. Ted Williams couldn’t make these guys into good hitters.
Am I fair in saying 2 or 3 guys in today's line-up would be regular players on an average MLB team?
I wasn't a big fan of the Hague hire. I know that the players in Toronto seemed to like him, but so what.. really. The Blue Jays, outside of Guerrero, were a bad hitting team last year. Hague is as much of the problem as Haines.
The players just suck.
I actually thought Hague might help a little bit. He does seem to have an outlook and background that differ from Haines’. And Haines had a track record of failure with two other teams, so it seemed likely he was exacerbating problems that Birdbrain had created.

Deck chairs, deck chairs.
I’m with you at this point. This has nothing to do with the hitting coach.
They lead the league in k’s looking. I promise Haines & Hague aren’t telling their hitters to take strike three.
The hitters aren’t able to read spin or see the red dot with sliders.
They’re doing everything you suggest.
You can game plan all you want but if the players suck, it doesn’t amount to much
Pirates are literally making every starter during the 4 runs or less look like a Cy young candidate.
Everyday is just a kick to the nuts. What a f*cking joke.
I love the discussions on here about extending Skenes, of which I never touch. It's laughable that Skenes would want to continue his career as a Pirate. Let's be serious.
I don’t know how he can bear to take the mound for this team.
