Anybody know what the status of Oviedo is?

Not close.

I'm a Kelly fan but I didn't like the bunt call. The cliche of play for a tie at home and a win on the road is a cliche for a reason, and it seemed like he was playing for the tie by giving up the out. Plus, while I think Frazier is playing too much, he is someone I have confidence in getting a big hit.

Frazier can’t hit with that giant fork sticking out of his bat. He sucks.

Scott Kliesen's avatar

This isn’t 2019. The 2025 version of Frazier inspires no confidence of anything good with the bat.

And after that half inning, I became glad that I'll be blacked out for the next three games against the Reds.

Per DKPS, this report may have been premature.

Interesting. I believe Stumpf and Hiles reported there’s something to it though they didn’t go as far as Perrotto

It's obviously on the table, unfortunately.

IIRC, many of us predicted that when he was initially injured, given the symptoms. By the time he pitches for us again, he'll have three years of service time and therefore be in his first arb year. I guess at least Bob will be happy because his arb value will be so low.

Anyway, this stinks.

I think we kinda saw this coming after his initial IL stint last season. Had they pulled the plug and had TJ then, it’d look much better

Wasn’t that a lat injury last year though? I only played operation a couple of times, but I thought that’s a different part of the body.

We played Operation as a drinking game in college. Sometime it was pretty tough to keep those hands steady.

Didn't you learn the song in Kindergarten.. "The shin bone is connected to the ankle bone..."

Also, operation doesn't count. You had to have played doctor with a girl as a boy before qualifying to comment on medical matters.

So he will probably be back in '27. The hits keep coming, except for the pirates hitters.

Think of all the 2-1 losses he won't be able to pitch!

Expand full comment
TNBucs's avatar

Yeah, we'll have gotten 3 months of pitching for 3 years of service. Not Jones' fault of course, but it's a reminder of not putting too much faith in pitching prospects.

They have IL-60 and a full-season IL, so there’s that. Although they usually hold off a while before transferring a guy to either.

Given the news on Jones (which needs to be verified as this wouldn't be the first time Perrotto was wrong), starting him on the IL-7 with the expectation that he'll be back soon doesn't mean anything to me.

We'll see. I am not 100% certain what teams are near our host's house. We will be staying with a guy whose books I am editing, and I know that he lives somewhere in Santo Domingo and that his cousin is some type of coach for one of the DSL teams. I have to look everything up and see where we can go and what is available.

We've got zero clutch hitters, really missing Nicky G who actually hits in the clutch. Even

Valdez could have helped and he's out. Someone, anyone, needs to start hitting in the clutch situations.

2.44 ERA for the season and Pirates have lost 7 of his 10 starts.

Aurorus Borealus's avatar

I wasn't a big fan of the Hague hire. I know that the players in Toronto seemed to like him, but so what.. really. The Blue Jays, outside of Guerrero, were a bad hitting team last year. Can we not find people who have had track records of success for any position in the organization? Why does everyone come from a loser?

Expand full comment
Catch22's avatar

Hague is as much of the problem as Haines.

The players just suck.

Expand full comment
WTM's avatar

I actually thought Hague might help a little bit. He does seem to have an outlook and background that differ from Haines’. And Haines had a track record of failure with two other teams, so it seemed likely he was exacerbating problems that Birdbrain had created.

Instead, Hague illustrates just how deeply rooted Birdbrain’s failures are. As in, it’s so effing horrendous that a coaching change can’t make even the slightest dent. Of course, we’re seeing that with Kelly now, too.

Deck chairs, deck chairs.

Agree, my point is their not doing their homework before each game, each series, preparing the hitters for the pitchers they'll be seeing. Get the hitters on the VR Batting simulator that Bob allegedly has purchased thru the org. That's on the hitting coaches.

Our hitters will never be Ted Williams but they should be better than they are showing.
