Well, a bummer that no # 30 tonight and no sweep but dang happy that the took the series from the high and mighty Dodgers. They will have to go to work tomorrow and grab #30 on the way to another series win against the Twins!
Winning the series is great--as I posted earlier this week, just focus on winning series and we'll be fine. We're now 7-9-4 in series. A sweep here and there would help, though, to make up for the series where we were swept. Speaking of sweeps, it's worth noting that the Reds swept the Dodgers in Cincinnati a couple of weeks ago. Based purely on talent, we could flip the NL Central standings and it wouldn't be a shock to me (I guess I'd have a hard time seeing the Brewers in last because they just know how to win but with Williams out, they're not that much more talented than anyone else in the division).
I kind of like the Dodgers too--Mookie is one of my favorite non-Pirates, Freeman by multiple accounts is a great guy, and Ohtani is captivating. But then I also like the Phillies, and just hoping that of the NL super teams it's one of them in the WS (unless, of course, we make the postseason).
down 4 runs, no one on, 2 outs in the 9th. I understand the whole lefty-righty thing, but I wouldn't have pinch-hit for Jack since he already had 2 hits today.
Must be nice to have an offense good enough to roll with a guy hitting under .100 every day. Dodgers can afford to play Taylor in regular season, but they better figure out a Plan B before October. I have no doubt they will.
Interesting to see Phillips throw 31 pitches...guess he needed the work but could make him unavailable tmw...anyways, let dodger blog debate that, ive got enough to worry about with our bullpen🤣
What kind of value do you think we could expect if we were to trade Peguero? Could he potentially pull a high upside reliever with a couple years of control?
Feel like we would have to be moving him to a team with a desperate need and it would be wildcard type of guy we would be getting in return, at best. Ben has been able to find some guys like that in the past though
Peguero has zero trade value at this point. To get something of value the Pirates would have to trade Johnson, Chandler, or Harrington. That’s the reality.
I think the original question was to get a reliever. I agree Peguero wouldn't do that, but I disagree that the Pirates would have to trade one of the 3 guys you mentioned. If the team is out of contention, guys like Shim, McAdoo, Lonnie White Jr, Mueth, Ashcraft, Jebb are possibilities, especially if we threw in a guy like Peggy, Gorski or Delay. Who knows.
“ Who the fuck Heller” had a Bailey Falter inning. No need to panic, we are playing a $200 million team. And we have plenty of time to come back. Chill.
Close to what exactly? They are in last place in one of the weakest divisions in baseball. This team needs a whole bunch of stuff to really be competitive.
If you watch them and think they aren’t close then you are a pessimist. They have one of the best rotations in baseball and are only a game or two out of the wild card. It may be a weak division, but most divisions last and 4th place teams are close to 10 games under 500. This team is in great position to make a run at the division and wild card. They just need some bullpen arms and a power corner outfielder or 1B bat. 84 wins gets you a wild card most likely. Yes they are in last place but let’s not act like they are several games back and that they are 10-15 games below 500. This is a young team with a lot of promise. Will management do something to improve the team? That is a whole another issue.
Rivas maybe turned a corner the last month or less in bradenton
Last place all alone. Good job Ben and Derek!

Nice series win👍... Dodgers are an interesting team, im not sure why but i find them likeable🤷♂️

Agree
Vesia has looked really good.......oh to have a hard throwing LH in the pen. When is Hernandez out on parole?

Cruz now takes a 23-22 lead on Nick in RBI’s, with only 124 more AB’s. 😳
If nothing else, at least Cruz's HR gets Rowdy off the top of the Statcast EV leaderboard, because that's just not right.

462'!!!
It’ll be a crime if he’s not in the derby
Hadn't even thought about that, good call. A must.
462 foot homer, 117 mph. Damn man --- get hot and stay hot!
Looks like it might be Ortiz on Saturday.
Super Regionals tomorrow! Keep the board posted on prospects Mel.
I'll be watching lol
Go UConn!
UVA!!
should call up Ashcraft
He had a 11K's tonight, rough 1st inning but only gave up one run the next 5 innings (solo homerun).
Maybe not the best move for his development, but we have a serious lack of better options internally

I think 2 years ago, yes. Probably not as much now, unless teams something that the Pirates are missing.
Feel like we would have to be moving him to a team with a desperate need and it would be wildcard type of guy we would be getting in return, at best. Ben has been able to find some guys like that in the past though
He has really slowed down. Since May 1st, hitting .245 with one homer.

Heller looks like me trying to throw BP to my 11-year old from the 40 foot mound
the best move we can make to improve the billpen is use Martin Perez as a situational reliever instead of a starting pitcher
Was just having this conversation with a friend, is there any timetable on a Marco Gonzalez return?
best case, , mid to late July.
Or hit the waiver wire. Or independent ball, if the Pirates have scouts out there.
Perez with a 1.28 era last september while pitching in relief
We need more than one add to pen.
Cherington needs to add to the bullpen ASAP. This team is so close

Close to .500 maybe
Yes and the wildcard.
It's possible I guess.
