LSU and Arkansas playing a back and forth game, Ark blows a 2-run lead in 9th with mental error on DP ball and then a misplay by LF. Really tough loss.
Pretty amazing how Coastal Carolina is in the CWS finals on a 26 game winning streak. Also amazing how they compete for kids vs ACC and SEC in their backyard. I mean it's the Sun Belt Conference.
More importantly, he has been a consistent hitter at every level he's moved up.
If a guy is playing lights out like never before, then there's some justification for seeing if he cools off at his current level -- Rivas comes to mind as such a guy. Valdez has been good at every level, and his power uptick in A ball is consistent with the age when you expect guys to grow into their strength.
Everything about Valdez says he needs to see better pitching.
Solo limited to 23 pitches He didn't get out of the first. He was hurt by the 1B whiffing on a slow grounder on the second hitter. They have changed his motion. He used to swing his front leg towards first base and it gave him a weird arm angle that was hard to pick up. Now he is more traditional drop.and drive and theows more over the top. Throwing 89 that is unlikely to be a recipe for.success.
I think Cook is up because of his defense. He might be the best centerfielder on the team right now. He doesn’t have to do much to replace Reynolds bat unfortunately but he also might catch fire for a couple weeks. That tends to happen.
Good pitching night in minors. Barco, Dotel, and hopefully a good couple innings for Solo. And Weitgrefe has been better lately. Hopefully gives the Hoppers a good outing and that damn Brooklyn team loses a game.
I think the Pirates would gladly take a split while the Tigers want to win both games. Therefore, the way I see it is the Tigers are the ones that need to match it up.
The Pirates have nothing to play for as far as the standings go, so it's really Donnie who needs to match up vs Skubal. Sure, if you're playing conservatively, each ace should win their game and both teams get a split. But that's a weak approach if Donnie does that.
If I were Kelly, I would announce what game Skenes is pitching, so Skenes can do his preparation as always. Then leave it in the Tigers hands. That's just me.
Cook went from an intriguing outfield option with a power/speed combo to a singles hitter… hopefully the hitting translates and as he grows comfortable in the majors, finds a way to incorporate the power back into his game. Ideally, he’d hit well over the next few days and force BCs hand into cutting ties with Pham. Can’t really justify cutting bait with Pham when no one is pushing him for playing time.
Pham is so bad it doesn’t matter, but Suwisnki has almost .900 OPS, Yorke is in .270’s and is still a legit prospect, and Cook could duplicate Pham’s atrocious offense with the actual possibility of improvement. Pham should retire.
I felt the same about Cook until I watched him play several games. He is a high iq ball player that know how to run the bases and has often blew me away with how he runs, throws and fields. If he can hit, he is a legit major leaguer...... even if it is only singles.
Brett Sullivan cleared waivers. Not known yet whether he’ll opt for free agency.

Jared Jones would be a decent 1B power bat.

Making us here in SC proud. Like they did in 2016. Just follow the box scores but its fun to see people excited about baseball.
Esmerlyn doing Esmerlyn things. That’s 17.
And he pounded two foul homers to left in that at bat before the singer to RC.
Too - na!
Too - na!

Yeah, nearly 20 HRs at any level should be promotion-worthy.
He leads that league by five, second in doubles just one behind the leader. He leads in SLG by nearly 100 points.
More importantly, he has been a consistent hitter at every level he's moved up.

Derek Berg just hit HR #5. I persist in thinking he's kinda prospect-y.
Dotel so far:
3 2 0 0 0 6
Finished 6 2 0 0 1 8
Griffin, another game, another hit.
Plus another double. This one off a AAA pitcher on rehab (Jovani Moran)
Moran is not a AAA pitcher. He is a major-league pitcher with pretty serious stuff coming back from TJS.

Because of the DH tom the Pirates will need a spot starter Sat or Sun. And Bubba lines up perfectly….

And Cook is 22 for 48 for a .458 average in June.
Marcelo Mayer with 4 HR already, will he pass Davis in total HR by the end of the year….Davis has 12 for his career.
playing in that little league bandbox... ;)
Solometo to Bradenton on rehab. Luke Scherrer promoted. Probably another C move coming somewhere.
As a followup, the upper level C situation looks grim unless Sullivan clears waivers and accepts assignment, and/or Gutierrez returns soon. Right now:
Indy: Eli Wilson, Shawn Ross
Toona: Aaron McKeithan, Wyatt Hendry.
Lower levels look better, although Richard Ramirez is on the temporarily inactive list. Dunno what that’s about.
Hoppers: Omar Alfonzo, Giovanny Planchart, Justin Miknis
Bradenton: Axiel Plaz, Derek Berg, Luke Scherrer (Is somebody hurt here?)
FCL: Jonathan Rivero, Samuel Escudero

The game is rescheduled for tomorrow (Weather), will they make a Skenes v Skubal matchup?https://x.com/CodyStavenhagen/status/1935440110960472330
Woo-hoo! Two day non-losing streak!
Should be a double-header. The manager who doesn't match the other ace should be fined
by MLB. That should be a given.....100% they face each other either Game 1 or 2 doesn't matter.

I think the Tigers have already announced Skubal going in game 1. It's Donnie's move.
The now-canceled lineup today was hilarious. I wondered whether Skubal would be insulted.
Foregone conclusion of a no hitter today, the only bet line is over under for actual foul ball contact the Pirates make against this guy.
HA!!!! Not today!!!!

I’m fantasizing about Cook going 7-for-8 or something, not that the idiot GM would care. Facing Skubal won’t exactly help.
Did he rework his swing?
Didn’t read far enough before I posted a similar question….😳
Maybe minor changes, but looks identical overall. Probably trying to cut back on the strikeouts

Adminsky does not approve this message and you are officially uninvited to the Cook Club Cookout per bmacs sources.
I really want to like Cook, but a 26 year old singles hitter on a team desperate for runs doesn’t get my hopes up lol

I wonder if he change something? might explain his early season struggles and now improved contact without power.
