Would really only matter if the teams that he has been pitching against have not seen him. Will be interesting to see if he only an opener or if they will let him go for a while. He is probably pitching more relaxed as he was looked at as a possible top of the rotation guy here and maybe that got to him when things did not go as planned and could not get himself out of his funk here. Who knows?
Skubal beat Suarez and the Phillies tonight. Very good pitching will beat very good hitting. We just need a couple more Skenes. But these only come around once a decade at best.
Bryce Wilson pitches 6 innings of shut out ball, allowing 3 hits for Brewers. I guess Marin didn't see anything in him when we DFAed him and got cash considerations.
He was one of our big gets at the trade deadline when we traded our closer Richard Rodriguez. Bryse's second to last game as a Pirate, he went 8 innings only giving up 3 hits. Then we DFA him. It seems to happen a lot that when they trade away a veteran for a prospect, that we DFA the guy we thought wasa going to be part of our future.
Bryce still being Bryce. His las start gave up 5 earned prior to that shut out the Reds into the 6th. Gave up 7:the game before that. Wildly inconsistent still.
I understand all that, but I always am a little optimistic when we get these prospects back in trade that are going to help us for the next several years for veterans. You would think if we are trading for them, we know something the other team doesn't and we are going to be patient developing them. Most of these guys we just throw back into the fire and DFA them within the year. It just probably takes me a while to figure out that we probably didn't really want these guys in the first place. Bryse Wilson, Jackson Wolf, Tucapita Marcano, Diego Castillo, Hoy Park, Roansy Contreras, Canaan Smith-Njigba, Will Crowe, Kyle Crick.......
Oh I am always optimistic as well. I would rather be optimistic than not. The hope is always that you get a diamond in the rough and you can get some of a more polished version giving a fresh shot and a bit of a different approach and give the player more time to mature. I thought that Wilson maight have been one of those rough diamonds that just wasn’t polished enough. He just never hit his stride consistency wise. Appears that he is still the same in Milwaukee. Great one game and hammered the next. Maybe Pittsburgh will get lucky with his brother Payton on the gridiron 😁. Many of they guys you mentioned were around for a bit. The sad one was Crick. He was doing well until he decided to go against Crash Davis’s #1 rule and hit the pitcher who will remain nameless in a clubhouse fight and messed up his hand. Never was any good after that.
Not "know"; who do you want? I want Bart and Davis 50/50 when Hank is off IL but if they want to send Henry to AAA for 100 PAs, I'd prefer Bart/Delay and Grandal cut.
He never really went anywhere. His peripherals haven't varied much. His velo is exactly the same as last year. He has just suffered from the wobbliness that accompanies RP stats.
Reynolds' postgame interviews continue to crack me up for lack of enthusiasm.
Luis Ortiz starting tomorrow, which honestly I’m fine with.
Also noteworthy, Roansy Contreras is starting for the Angels tomorrow
Roansy’s throwing the change a lot more, surprisingly, but the only other big difference that stands out to me is a much higher chase rate.
I wonder how much change in league matters these days?
I'm not sure but he may be getting the first pitch in for a strike. That can lead to higher chase rates.

Booyah!!!!! #38 in the books and look to take the series tomorrow Raise it!

And now he's in our division. That never works out well!

Just one night. His 5.15 2024 FIP is right in line with what he did here.
I don't recognize FIP as a leading indicator. Maybe 12th on the list of analytics.
Ah, you're smarter than everyone. Must be 71Bucs79 from Bucsdugout.
Nah, just read a couple expert's articles on the short-comings of FIP.
Links? Here's mine pre-emptively:

Peralta went two and a third in his Altoona debut: no runs, two hits, NO walks, and four K’s.
Not sure whether it’s been noted, but Ashcraft threw 5 scoreless today.
Still looking for the strikeouts in AAA, but the effectiveness early on is definitely encouraging
Mitch didn’t have his best stuff, but his defense didn’t help him out. Could’ve at least gotten six innings out of him..
Hopefully Carmen has found his magic from last year. Been looking great as of late.
Good to see Gonzales rebound with the bat tonight. Offense showed up tonight.
Getting pretty hard to justify trotting Taylor out there… and I’m ready for Joey Bart to return so I can hopefully see less of Grandal.
Big game tomorrow
A lot of good observations there sir.
raise it!

Hard earned win considering they were leading 8-0.

Bart on rehab. Who yinz want at catcher when he's ready?
Yasmanot.
We all know it’s Grandal.

Davis to Altoona beginning Wednesday.
You want Davis to Altoona or you're seeing he's heading there?
Ah interesting, they're sending him down to Altoona: https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/pirates/2024/06/25/pirates-henry-davis-ryan-borucki-rehab-assignments-altoona-indianapolis/stories/202406250112
I'm with you. Bart and either Delay or Davis. DFA Grandal.
India is getting healthy against our pitching.
Wehner also making excuses on state media for Ben not being able to get offensive upgrades
Wehner talking trash on under .600 and .500 OPSes when the Pirates are the World Champs there lol
Sarah Gelles looks like Weird Al
Mlod did a great job tonight.
He did! Let's hope he's "back". We could use a guy like that.
