Holderman is a guy I think about moving for the right offer this deadline honestly. The teams who miss out on Mason Miller and Scott would be into him. FOMO is a hell of a drug.

Wow, what a nice win, also some seemingly blog drama, removed posts I see when catching up below, keep it civil gentleman🙏👍... Anyways, this has to be latest in season we have been over .500 in the GMBC era, is that right?

Someone got really triggered unfortunately and told me to basically die and never come back, yeah. Yeah for sure the latest. Ben's lifetime record is .450 so lots of losing.

Good folks sometimes write unfortunate posts, it happens, ive been guilty of such, sadly... Now back to baseball and are red hot, playoff charging Buccos👏👏👏

Playoff charging? I like your optimism but more like "last wildcard hoping" which is probably more than Ben expected this year given his behavior.

5 in a row, longest current win streak in baseball and making up ground accordingly, yeah, charging to me🤷‍♂️🤣

Glad you think so! I'm not there but it'd be fun to be there.

Do we think Rowdy knows his head is shaped like a giant peanut?

Credit where credit is due: Shelton managed a truly great game tonight. Aggressive on the base paths, using Holderman in the 8th down by 1, good use of bench, good situational hitting from the team — Shelton was managing this game (for once) like we are in a playoff race. So nice to see.

Padres losing, Mets losing, ATL-STL both not playing --- potential to pick one up on the field!

Screw all of them. Target is Mil.

We picked up 1/2 game tonight. They are within reach.

I like it but do you think Cherington and Shelton have the instincts to move up 6 games in less than a half a season?

Jul 20Edited

It has less to do with instincts than Cherington just not caring. But this rotation could carry them if he just accidentally added a couple bats. Even mediocre ones, wouldn't have to be all-star level bats. And maybe I'm wrong, but Mil just doesn't look that good to me. Cherington accidentally won a WS before. Blind squirrel and all.

I think this sort of thing is BS, but there is an entry at MLBTR about them having "exploratory talks" on Chisholm

What pisses me off is that it feels like they're mindlessly committed to 2025 as the competitive window. No instinct to strike while the iron is hot. You have three young SPs that other teams would kill to have. All they need is a smidge of run support.

Man, I don't want Jazz. He's a loafer and gets hurt constantly.

Expand full comment

I think reports like this are complete nonsense, but hypothetically, if there was something to it, consider -

-This is Cherington. He normally targets guys who struggle to hit .150. And because he's done such a bad job with the farm system, there's not enough to offer to bring back a primo player. He's not getting Rooker or anybody like that.

-The Pirates have the second-worst OF production in MLB and the clown show in CF is the biggest problem (MAT and Jack wRC+ of 50 and 61). Chisholm only has to be merely crappy to be a huge upgrade. Cherington butchered the offseason so badly that any player he gets who isn't a Cherington-level fiasco will be a big help.

-Chisholm only has to stay on the field for two months. Anybody they get is going to present risk of some sort or other.

Expand full comment

Not enough to get Rooker? We have pitchers galore.

Expand full comment

Cherington acquires Jazz July 25th for Luis Ortiz, Termarr Johnson and Thomas Harrington and Jazz plays in one game for the Pirates and breaks his tibia is my bet.

The Mets falling out of contention would be a very Mets thing to do.

Expand full comment

It's harder for them because Lindor is on a spitting distance of MVP track. Crazy how the top 4 fWAR players are in the AL the year Shohei transfers to NL too.

Expand full comment

Failing while Lindor has a career year would also be a very Mets thing to do.

Woah, can't believe it! Stepped away for tv time with wife. Glad they pulled it off.

Great win boys!

The baserunning today was everything I've hoped for this year.

Particularly satisfying as I was listening to the Phillies feed. They were disappointed…

Yeoman work by the bullpen to keep it close. There's life in this club yet.

Expand full comment

True. You throw enough pitchers out there and this Phillies team is usually going to get after somebody.

Love it when ballsy decisions pay off. That double steal was as ballsy as it gets!

Thank God Shelton didn't bunt, that's what I was thinking he'd do and give up an out.

Expand full comment

Agreed. Wouldn't do it with Realmuto, personnel matters.

Good point.

Pretty sure that was not the White Sox they were playing.

A lot of things had to go right for the Bucs to win this game, probably doesn’t happen 7 or 8 times out of 10.

Booyah!!!!!! Oneil gets the tying run in against the lefty and Nicky Sticks knocks in the game winner! # 49 in da books and the streak continues!!! Raise it!!!!!!

I know that some of you have never experienced this, but this win was almost as good as getting laid! Trust me. Raise it!!!

Well, I'm old and retired now, but I recall that feeling. But today, I'd equate it to a good dump.

I’m 40 now. Nothing better than a good dump!

Or a long, loud pressure relieving fart!
