Overview
The Pirates signed Armas as an outfielder with potentially good hitting ability and a chance to develop power. His speed is about average, so he could end up in an outfield corner. His arm is good.
2021-23
Armas hit respectably in his first season, although he didn’t show much power. He drew a lot of walks, but struggled to make contact, striking out in over a third of his ABs. He played mostly in center. The Pirates sent Armas back to the DSL and he did very little at the plate other than draw lots more walks. He didn’t start any games in center, which probably shows some loss of prospect status. Things continued back in the DSL in the same vein in 2023, except Armas’ playing time was more limited. He batted just .161 with little power, and struck out in half his ABs.
