Overview

Already 18 at the time, Lobo signed with Boston just before the 2022 DSL season started.  He doesn’t seem to have been a prominent signing.  The Pirates acquired him for Hoy Park.  Lobo throws a big-breaking curve and a change, and his fastball sits about 87 mph.

2022-24

Lobo made five starts in the DSL in 2022 and consistently dominated, with an 0.82 ERA, 0.8 BB/9 and 11.5 K/9.  He didn’t pitch at all after July 1, for unknown reasons. The Pirates acquired him in November and he was injured at the start of the 2023 season. They sent him to the DSL in July and he pitched well, although he wasn’t as dominant as in 2022.

The Pirates assigned Lobo to Bradenton several weeks into their 2024 season, but after he relieved in three games there he went to the FCL. Pitching mostly in one-inning stints, he had an ERA of 1.98 and a K/9 of 12.5, and didn’t walk a batter. In late June, the Pirates moved Lobo back up to Bradenton, where he pitched in long relief. In his time there overall, he had a 1.65 ERA and 0.98 WHIP, mainly the result of allowing only 17 hits in 32.2 IP.
