Overview

A 6’4″ lefty, De La Paz is mainly a projection guy.  When he signed, he threw in the mid-80s with a curve and change.

2022-24

The Pirates kept De La Paz’ workload low in his debut season.  He started his last six outings, but never went beyond three innings.  Opponents batted only .119 against him with no extra base hits, even though he didn’t miss a lot of bats.  What trouble he had came from walks, of which he allowed 8.2 per nine innings.  He actually pitched well most of the time.  Of the nine earned runs he allowed, six came in a two-game stretch.  In the six starts he had a 2.61 ERA.

De La Paz went back to the DSL in 2023 and had a disastrous season. He walked 20 in 15 innings, and had a WHIP of 2.33. Back there for a third year in 2024, he pitched about the same, allowing 19 hits and 18 walks in just 15.1 IP.
