Overview
Zorrilla was one of the top players the Pirates signed in the 2020-21 international signing period. He runs well and has power potential, but so far he’s had severe problems making contact.
2021-23
In his first season, Zorrilla was recovering from a shoulder injury and got only two plate appearances. He played a few innings in the field at short and third. In 2022, he played mostly third, probably because he was on the same team as Yordany De Los Santos. At the plate, he had a very high walk rate and hit for some power, but he had a 47.4% K rate, which led to a .118 batting average.
The Pirates sent Zorrilla back to the DSL again in 2023 and this time he mostly played short. He improved some at the plate, but his K rate of 37.5% was still very high. He continued to show some power and to draw lots of walks.
2024
Zorrilla moved up to the FCL in 2024, but he played only sparingly until early July, when he went on the injured list for the rest of the season. He struggled to make contact, striking out in exactly half of his 26 ABs. He had only four hits, all singles. In the field, Zorrilla played mostly at third.
