Overview

The Pirates took college seniors with six of their last seven picks in the 2022 draft, with Loeschorn being the last.  He was mainly a starter for four years in college, going 25-4, 2.28, with a 2.5 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9.  He also made five starts in the independent Frontier League between the end of his 2022 college season and the draft.  He had a 6.49 ERA, which isn’t as bad as it sounds because the league ERA was 5.79 and he was several years younger than the average.  Loeschorn throws 88-92 mph, and adds a slider and change.

2022-24

Loeschorn didn’t appear in any games in his draft year. In 2023 he spent the first two-thirds of the season in the Bradenton bullpen. He gave up five runs in one inning in his first game, but after that had a 2.79 ERA with a 2.9 BB/9 and 13.4 K/9. After that Loeschorn moved up to Greensboro, where he mostly pitched in a little longer outings, including four starts in which he went 3-4 innings. He still had excellent walk (2.2) and K (9.5) rates, but had some trouble with gopher balls, giving up five in 28.1 IP. Four were on the road, so it wasn’t the home park.

Loeschorn missed the whole 2024 season due to injury.
