Overview
Drafted by the Pirates as a college senior, Bosnic pitched only briefly in 2020 and then mainly as a reliever in 2021. He had a 2.78 ERA and allowed only 22 hits in 50.2 IP. He fanned 78 and walked 25. He missed the 2022 season due to a flexor strain in his elbow and, about a week before the draft, announced his intention to transfer to Arkansas as a fifth-year senior. Bosnic throws primarily a fastball that averages in the low-90s. He supposedly reached 98 in college, but hasn’t thrown that hard as a pro. The fastball gets a lot of swings and misses due to a great deal of movement. Bosnic adds a curve, slider and change, all of which have also produced high whiff rates. It looks like Bosnic will be strictly a reliever.
2022-23
Bosnic’s elbow surgery was in April and the Pirates never activated him after the draft. In 2023, he opened the season with Bradenton. He was very hard to hit; opponents batted only .164 against him and he had a K/9 of 11.8. He also had a BB/9, though, of 6.9. The Pirates promoted him to Greensboro and his performance there, in nine games, was similar. In 11.1 IP, he allowed only four hits and struck out 16, but he walked 11 and had an ERA of 6.35.
2024
Bosnic spent 2024 with Greensboro, although he missed two months out of the middle of the season. He had a 3.03 ERA and a decent K/9 of 9.3, but his other numbers were less impressive. That included a 6.5 BB/9 and 1.66 WHIP. His xFIP was 4.87 and he was easier to hit than the previous year; apart from the lower K rate, opponents hit 100 points higher against him. Bosnic had no platoon split.
