Overview
Almonte is a lefty who reaches 91 now and has a potential plus slider if he gains consistency. The slider is effective against hitters from both sides of the plate. He needs to work on a change to move forward as a starter, but the fact that he throws with a lot of deception may work in his favor.
2023-24
Almonte had a good DSL debut, except for control problems. He allowed only 14 hits in 26.2 IP, but he walked 24. He struck out 30. He got steadily better as the season went along. Almonte returned to the DSL in 2024 and pitched as a starter, but the control problems persisted. He fanned 41 in 29 innings, but he walked 29 and had a 1.86 WHIP.
