Overview

The Yankees signed Cabrera for his raw power potential. He showed the power at the rookie levels, but since reaching full season ball he’s been undone by swing and miss issues. He has a good arm and average speed, and he’s had significant problems with errors at third.

2019-21

Cabrera showed the power in the Dominican Summer League in 2019 and the Florida Complex League in 2021, with the pandemic season in between. He also had very good walk totals. His strikeout rate wasn’t bad in the DSL, but in the FCL he fanned in nearly a quarter of his plate appearances and batted just .217. He did hit eight home runs, which put him among the league leaders.

2022-23

Cabrera had a lot more trouble with the two Class A levels, Low A in 2022 and High A in 2023. He had an OPS of just .659 and .642, respectively. Between the two levels he had a K rate of 36%. He also had a fielding percentage of just .872 in 2023.

The Pirates selected Cabrera in the minor league phase of the 2023 Rule 5 draft.
