The Pirates did not look very good against the Red Sox yesterday, with SP Garrett Crochet a big part of that with 5.1 IP and 9 K's. The Red Sox went all in trying to get Crochet from the CWS to be a part of the Red Sox Rotation. Big gamble - he was mostly a reliever in college with Tennessee and in his first 3 years with CWS, then only had one year - 2024 - as a SP in MLB.

Decided to take a look at what teams would pay for a guy like Crochet - big arm, but big gamble! The Red Sox gave up their 2023 1-14 Draft Pick C Kyle Teel, 852 OPS in AA in 2024 before being promoted to AAA. They also gave up their 2024 1-12 Draft Pick, OF Braden Montgomery from SEC Power Texas A&M, who did not play in 2024. Then a MI Chase Meidroth, 24, who at AAA IL, had an 837 OPS and typical MI EBH stats of 20 doubles, 3 triples, 7 HR in 437 AB. He also had 105 Walks/71 K's and played excellent D at SS/2B/3B! And last but not least was Wikelman Gonzalez, a RHSP at AA last year for Boston - 19 Starts, 4.73 ERA. Very good chance Teel, Meidroth, and Gonzalez see action in MLB for the CWS this year.

This is what a team does in trying to win now. And Crochet's salary is a paltry $3.8M for 2025. If only our GM would try to win now after 5 years of basement dwelling.

A Will Taylor sighting - at least in the box score. Anyone had eyes on him at PC? I know he played WR at Clemson, so he should be pretty athletic out in the OF. Would love for something to click for him at the plate that would allow him to move through the system.

Also, hoping Suwinski’s play this spring is no mirage. From what I’ve heard/read about Hague, it seems that he is a coach who doesn’t ignore the mental side of hitting and tries to connect with the players on a personal level while working with them. If that is the case, maybe he can really help some guys who’ve shown in the past they can hit MLB pitching like a Suwinski.

Good points about Jack Suwinski and Matt Hague. If Jack can tap into that 26 HR power he had in 2023, that will solve a whole lot of MOTO doubts. Reynolds, Cruz, Bart, Suwinski, Cutch, and Horwitz can be an effective group. Best of the Group in HR/AB? Joey Bart, a HR every 19.5 AB. Cutch, HR every 22.4 AB, Cruz, HR every 25.8 AB, Reynolds HR every 25.9 AB, and Horwitz HR every 27.3 AB with Toronto.
