BASEBALL IS BACK.
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed Australian left-handed pitcher Blake Townsend to a minor-league contract. He finished the 2024 season with the Pirates after being released by the Seattle Mariners.
The 23-year-old Townsend posted a 2.35 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched in 2024. He struggled with his control, walking 19 and hitting another 12 batters.
In five games with the Altoona Curve, he struck out six over nine innings.
Townsend posted a 0.60 ERA in 15 innings while pitching for Adelaide in the Australian Baseball League this offseason.
