Overview

The Pirates signed Takacs shortly after the 2023 draft. He pitched mainly as a starter for three years at Sacramento State. His sophomore year was rough, as he had a 7.92 ERA. As a junior, he made three starts and then missed the rest of the year with an unknown injury. The three starts went well, with a 3.00 ERA, and just six hits and three walks allowed over 15 innings, with 17 strikeouts. He throws around 90 mph and adds a slider.

2023-24

Takacs didn’t pitch in 2023. In 2024 he spent most of his time pitching in relief in the FCL. He wasn’t effective there, with a 6.20 ERA and 1.62 WHIP. The Pirates promoted him to Bradenton late in the season anyway and, in seven games there, he had a 7.53 ERA and 1.88 WHIP, and more walks than strikeouts.
