In our latest episode, we recap the 2024 Winter Meetings for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Not only did they make a free agent signing, but they also made a significant trade for a bat.
We discuss our thoughts on the Pirates acquiring Spencer Horwitz in exchange for Luis Ortiz, Michael Kennedy, and Josh Hartle. What are the Pirates getting in Horwitz, and what would make this deal a win-win for both sides?
After the draft lottery, the Pirates will pick sixth overall. They originally had a 5.31% chance to get the first pick but ended up where they were projected. We discussed a couple of names we are monitoring early in the process that could be available when the Pirates could come up to pick.
Although the Pirates didn’t take anyone in the major league phase of the Rule 5, they were busy in the minor league portion. They lost three players while adding another five. We go over some of the new additions and if any of them are worth watching.
Finally, we wrap up with what the focus of the rest of the offseason should be on. There’s still one glaring hole in the lineup, and we discuss that.
