I don’t mind the opener bit if it’s done right. I.e., you have good relievers. The alternative is usually some 5th/6th/7th/8th starter who’s just trying to stumble thru 4 innings.
Of course, in the playoffs you’d generally expect more starting depth. But these teams DID get there.
Is there a way around it? I’m very much not in favor of legislation against a strategy. If you have the horses (or quarter horses, as relievers may be) and it works, that’s all that matters. The only feasible solution I can see is a limit on roster spots for pitchers. And I don’t know if that works.
Bidois and Planchart are not looking good as the pirate battery here. One sequence, Bidois throws a WP strike three that bounces off Planchart back past Bidois, who tracks it down and throws past first for the error. A little later Planchart throws one into CF for another error. Think Bidois gave up 7 runs in 1/3 of an inning. The future's bright my friends!
Maybe 300. Different vibe than a minor league game ...no hijinks between innings or marketing interns in costumes. Feels like a baseball junkie hangout
I know it's been mentioned before, but if you are in Florida and in the path of the hurricane, be safe.
Hurricane season always brings me back to when I was a kid living in Florida. For a while wanted to be a meteorologist (think the movie Twister helped play a factor in that as well).
If I had stayed in Florida, who knows, this may have been a weather based Substack lol (tbf, I also came very close to enrolling into culinary school after my first failed college try, so this could have also been a food based site too).
This is my quarterly reminder of my gratitude for your mullet WTF dude gif. I use it profusely and laugh every time I send it. Only other gifs I send are GOB or Tobias from Arrested Development. Much obliged.
Scottsdale has allowed 19 runs tonight. 10 have been from the two Pirates pitchers. Not the best of nights.
On the flip side, Geovanny Planchart has a RBI double
"Geovanny Planchart has a RBI double"
It's called "working toward winning."
Two bullpen games in the playoffs today. One produced a shutout and the other is five outs away from one.
thanks i hate it

Pirates catcher Planchart has a couple PBs, and Bidois just came in to pitch and got hit for a single and double.
Greetings from Scottsdale for the AFL game tonight! Only pirate in the lineup is Geovanny Planchart. Cool ballpark, maybe 300 people here
Enjoy. This sounds like a great time. What would you estimate the attendance to be?

Game time Temp of 94
The Mets are on fire at just the right time, but I can’t believe how pathetic the Phillies offense has been.
Crazy that the Philly bullpen was actually one of the better ones during the season.
They’ve been a disaster this series
Damn, Jose Q.
Oh, that Philly bullpen. Reminds me of the Bucs.

Is this a primer for offseason content? ;)

Go Siani on a Bucs note.
Made my day.
There are dozens of us. Dozens!
Are you also a never nude? Not sure if you will know what I'm talking about.
Nevermind. Reread my original post. Just got back from a blue man group meeting. Franklin was there.
Saw where Luis Tiant passed away at 83. Always a favorite of mine to watch.
So great. I lived in New England when he was at his peak for the Red Sox. Just an amazing pitcher with so much charisma.
He had *187* complete games and *47* shutouts in his career. Man, has the game of baseball changed since that era.
Threw a 163 pitch complete game in the 75 series. Wild shit.
Dodgers using old friend TBD as their starter. Think they wouldn't kill for a plodding reliable pitcher like Mitch Keller right about now.
Did they secretly sign Rowdy?
Now that’s just cruel.
