Interesting pics at DKPS of damage to LECOM and Pirate City. As the Pirate rep says in the article, it's trivial compared to what many people are dealing with. Still, I can't help looking at the one of the collapsed chain-link covered corridor at PC and think about how much time I've spent sitting under that watching Pirate prospects play.
The best hitting coaches have an actual approach that works. In other words it’s more than psychological. I’m thinking the greats: Harry Walker who turned Matty Alou into a batting champion; Charlie Lau of the great Royals teams; Walt Hrniak, who turned Dwight Evans into a borderline Hall of Famer and helped create Wade Boggs; and more recently, Kevin Long, the launch angle master.
As in any profession, the true experts/geniuses/people who make a difference are rare. But they’re out there. Somewhere in the world there is a guy who can turn Henry Davis into an all-star. It’s the Pirates job to find that person and not settle for the usual average approach.
JRC's choice of Hank to make their point really sends this challenge home, since Henry himself spent the winter at Driveline and somehow came back worse.
In the ongoing talent vs dev debate, it does stand out to me how the typical playoff roster is absolutely filled to the tits with Top 100-quality bats. Like, every slot in the lineup.
Detroit breaks that mold this year with good unheralded role players like Veirling and Carpenter, but they're also the worst offense in the dance and don't even make it in a normal year.
The Bucs were obviously right to move but they're gonna need a miracle worker if they can't bring in much, much better talent overall.
Good to hear this storm was better for you than Helene. I only lost the front screen door. No city power, but I have solar, so no big deal. It is sobering walking around and seeing the felled trees. I doubt anyone here will plant a tree that grows taller than 10 feet for a long time.
Some huge trees uprooted one or two doors from us. One was a great old oak tree just onto the neighbor's property with dead snags the ospreys used to roost on. Woodpeckers loved it, too. Luckily fell toward, but short of, their house not ours.
The longer I'm here, the more respect I have for areca palms. We're partly surrounded by them. Incredible windbreaks.
Shelton is going to open a bottle of Pappy, while Cherington's slight of hand moves the decimal point between the 2 and 1 and whala Grandal is back with a hangover.
Once finished off a bottle of Jameson with the neighbor who promptly pulled out the only other whiskey he had, which happened to be a bottle of Pappy he got as a Best Man gift, with absolutely no idea what he had just done.
I put up the minimum amount of effort I could muster in talking him out of it, lol.
I think it was 2017 or 2018, stopped at a middle of nowhere Liquor Store and got 2 Pappy 15's (the Santa Caps with the red caps error like baseball cards) spent $250 total for both plus tax. Nursed one for special occasions, then sold the other for $2,800. I really didn't want to sell it but the guy nagged me for around 2 years. I miss the days when you could pick up an antique, Pappy or Stagg Jr at retail.

Meanwhile, in AZ, Termarr was 2-4 with a triple and a walk. No Ks. So far so good.
There's video of the triple at the Pirates' site. Went oppo for it. Maybe a good trend developing.
Not baseball, but a small victory in the march toward robo umps: https://www.skysports.com/tennis/news/12110/13230764/wimbledon-championships-all-england-club-to-replace-all-300-line-judges-after-147-years-with-electronic-system-next-year
I've heard of like three pitchers on the Tigers playoff roster.
jinxed 'em, oops.
How about Kevin Seitzer for Hitting Coach as Atlanta just made him available...
I was just thinking, what qualities make up a good hitting coach?
I would think it’s more psychological than technical. Almost certainly a lot more complex than my simple mind is making it out to be.
700 at bats in your second year in the league
I think it's more psychological with the ability to spot slight changes in swings (usually in timing mechanisms).
SAME.
You wait until the ball curves. Then you hit the shit out of it.

Really well said.
Do you have any faith that BC can determine who that person is? I certainly don’t.

Well, house is undamaged and we’re miraculously part of the 20% of Bradenton that has power. Can give a tootle about baseball again.
Sure hope everyone else here fared well.
Glad you and yours are ok.
That’s good to hear. Answered prayers.

Tarik lined up for Detroit in Game 5?
Or game 1,4, & 7 vs NY/KC winner.
Murderers Row of...checks notes...Wencel Perez, Zack Mcinistry, and Trey Sweeney might've just made that happen.
$21mil is the new qualifying offer
tough call for Grandal.
