Overview
Mendez was considered raw when he signed. He had a good change and his fastball sat at 85-88 mph.
2020-23
After missing 2020, Mendez made 22 appearances, all in relief, in the DSL. He put up an ERA of 3.38. His xFIP was 6.00, and he had a 5.2 BB/9 and only a 3.7 K/9. In 2022, he had largely the same season except he greatly improved the K/9 to 8.8. He continued to get hit around in 2023. Even though his K/9 increased again, to 12.5, he walked a lot more and had a 2.17 WHIP.
